About this file

This document is an amendment to the quarterly reporting template for the Durable Module Materials Consortium DuraMAT FY24 Open Call Request for Proposals from the Department of Energy Office of Science. The amendment provides an updated quarterly reporting template as an attachment to the solicitation. The solicitation seeks proposals for research and development projects to advance materials for extreme environments and enable new energy technologies. Successful applicants will receive funding to conduct research over multiple years. Quarterly reports using the attached template will be required to track project progress and outcomes. The reporting template outlines the types of information required to be submitted on a quarterly basis, including project status, accomplishments, upcoming tasks, challenges or issues, and spending to date. The deadline to submit proposals in response to the solicitation is January 31, 2024, with project awards expected to be announced by September 30, 2024.

FOUR Slide Technical Update DuraMAT Project Summary Slides (template format required) Research Highlight Quarterly Update or second Research Highlight Poster (if there was a workshop that quarter) DOE Standard Reporting Project Financials (one spreadsheet, two tabs, goes to finance) Standard DOE RPPR2 for planned vs. actual spending Cost share report RPPR2 Technical reporting (one spreadsheet, two tabs, goes to PI) Milestone Update (RPPR2) Accomplishments list (RPPR2) instructions – delete this slide before submitting Reporting Requirements

Slides One and Two – DuraMAT Template Template format required Used by DuraMAT Leadership and DOE for higher level presentations outside of DuraMAT Should be heavy on graphics Only update as needed (start with your new project templates) Broad, more general summary of your work Slide Three – Research Highlight Highlight one result on a single slide Mostly graphics No template required – make it look good so DuraMAT Leadership can use these slides as necessary Just the latest and greatest Focused, deeper dive into one specific result Create at least two of these each year – typically one for each paper you publish or significant result Mark as proprietary if result cannot be shared outside of DuraMAT yet, indicate planned publication date Slide Four – Quarterly Progress Update Can be a bulleted list – what are you working on, progress update Indicate any major problems or promising experiments Generally not shared outside of DuraMAT No template required, does not need to be fancy Update every quarter instructions – delete this slide before submitting Four Slide Technical Summary

EXAMPLE

Best time to do these is right after papers are published and provides us a way to share recent work and highlights.

Polarization notes: During damp heat under negative cell voltage (-1000V relative to frame) Na+ accumulates at back interface, temporarily eliminating the field effect from dielectric passivation layer like AlOx

Imaging notes: Rs-map PL is collected using a scanning laser for excitation, which highlights the resistance-related effects because current flows from the illuminated laser spot in to the rest of the cell that remains in the dark. Therefore, the image looks like PL under charge-extraction conditions. Interestingly, if you zoom in on the Rs-map PL image, you can see the back-side PERC contact pattern. You can see the PERC pattern because there is a large difference in series resistance between the contact openings and passivated regions.

EQE measurements were collected on a new system at NREL purchased from Tau Science. The colors on the EQE plots correspond to the colored X’s on the EL graph. The dark black like is the control measurement, showing that there is more degradation on the back side. The wavelength dependence also tells us there is more degradation on the back side, because the shorter wavelengths get absorbed closer to the surface and longer wavelengths get absorbed closer to the bulk and other cell surface. Therefore, the increase in QE for the back side at long wavelengths corresponds to better performance when light is absorbed further from the back side, and vice versa for the front side.
