Questions & Answers

DOC Digital Fabrication Sign Shop – Printer, Software, and Related Equipment

Questions Answers

1. Existing equipment/material - Does

RIDOC currently possess any reflective sheeting, sign-design software, artwork libraries, cutters, laminators, printers, inks, or other production equipment with which the proposed system must be compatible?

If so, please identify the manufacturers and models/products currently in use.

We do not have any existing materials or equipment at RIDOC.

2. Alternative ink technologies - The specifications identify UV-LED ink technology. Will RIDOC accept alternative current-generation digital printing technologies, including latex-based printing systems, provided the proposed system is manufacturer-approved for traffic-sign production and capable of producing compliant, durable traffic signage on approved reflective sheeting?

DOC will consider alternative curing methods; however, we are primarily interested in using UV-LED.

3. Reflective sheeting / traffic-sign ecosystem - Does RIDOC have a preferred or required traffic-sign material ecosystem, such as 3M, Avery Dennison, ORAFOL, or another manufacturer? Please identify the reflective sheeting manufacturer whose approved digital printing system RIDOC intends to use for regulated traffic-sign production.

We do not have a preferred or required traffic-sign material ecosystem.

4. Printer manufacturer/model - The specifications identify detailed performance requirements for the Digital Fabrication Printer but do not identify a preferred manufacturer or model. Is RIDOC seeking a specific printer manufacturer/model as the basis of design, or may bidders propose any current-production printer that meets the intended traffic-sign production requirements?

We do not have a preferred manufacturer or model if the equipment allows us to provide a quality product for our customers.

5. Can you bid a Roland wide format printer for this bid?

We can consider wide-format printers if they do not limit us to printing in only one way.

We would like to have multiple printing capabilities and avoid limiting our production options.
