QUESTION: Work Item 26, Titled “Aircastle Superstructure Supports, Repair” Paragraph 3.2.2.

Paragraph 3.2.2, specifies as follows: "Box beam, renew. Crop and renew up to 10 square feet of box beam as shown on Coast Guard Drawing 627 WMEC 152-001 as designated by the Coast Guard inspector."

627 WMEC 152-001, Sheet 1, Elevation 4-E/1 depicts 4" x 4" Box Girders.

Is this what the paragraph is referring to?

If yes, how is the contractor to replace 10 sf on a 4" by 4" x 10.2# steel square tube?

Why don't we specify 1 lf of 4" x 4" x 12.2# steel square tube per commercial sizing?"

If no, what sheet and what elevation depicts the desired repair component?

Please provide additional reference depicting the desired repair.

ANSWER: The desired repair location is shown on 4-E/1 of the 627 WMEC 152-001. See attached drawing with callouts. The area is a void made of plate steel. Corrosion on both sides was due to no drain plug installed or corrosion preventative "float coat" performed.

QUESTION: Work Item 26, “Aircastle Superstructure Supports, Repair” Paragraph 3.4.1.

Are the existing "Box Girders" presently preserved with a rust preventative compound?

Is the contractor correct to assume that each "Box Girder" will require steaming out to a gas free safe for hot work condition?

Is the contractor correct to assume that a low point drain and high point vent bossed plugs are installed on each of the 8 "Box Girders" shown on the CG Drawing provided?

ANSWER: See the attached drawing. The drain plugs shown in the drawings do not exist. They will need to be installed for the void on both sides. Corrosion on both sides was due to no drain plug installed or corrosion preventative "float coat" performed.

QUESTION: Work Item 25, Titled “Aft Vestibule Deck, Repair & Joiner Door, Renew” Paragraph 3.2.4

Paragraph 3.2.4 Deck plate, renew; Reads as "The Contractor shall crop and renew up to six square feet of deck drain as designated by the Coast Guard inspector as shown on Coast Guard Drawing 627 WMEC 131-001. Verify the exact material to be renewed with the Coast Guard inspector prior to cropping."

Is the intent to replace deck plate and not deck drain?

Is there a deck drain in-way-of the intended repair?

ANSWER: The word deck should have been removed. The intent is to replace the deck. There is no deck drain in the vicinity of the repair.

QUESTION: Work Item 27, Titled “Aircastle Superstructure Supports, Repair” Paragraph 3.2.2.

Section 8-C of the provided reference is the "Fairlead".

All other structure shown on Plan 6-D and sections of 6-D is support for the "Fairlead".

Is the contractor correct to interpret the only component to renew is that shown in Section 8-C of reference provided?

Please provide a source for the casting.

Has the CG considered weld build-up of the existing casting?

ANSWER: See Attached marked up drawing for anchor chain fairlead.

QUESTION: Work Item 28, Titled “Bilge T-Bars, Renew” Paragraph 3.3.

Is the intent of the item to replace a total of 20 lf of stringer or three (3) whole twenty (20) foot stringers, for a total of 60 lf?
