About this file

This document provides an overview of a pre-solicitation notice for the Advanced Micro-Characterization of Materials contract opportunity and details of the Air Force Research Laboratory Materials Characterization Facility. The pre-solicitation is seeking proposals to conduct materials characterization research using electron, X-ray and ion-optical techniques to characterize novel materials developed at AFRL/RX. The goal is to develop and implement solutions for Air Force materials characterization needs as they arise, utilizing existing tools as well as customized software and hardware. Research would encompass characterization of metals, semiconductors, cermats, polymers, composites, functionally graded materials, nanomaterials and other material types. The contractor would prepare reports, papers, presentations, technical data and best practices guidance to assist the Air Force and Space Force in assessing new optical technologies and materials performance. The Air Force Research Laboratory Materials Characterization Facility provides over $15 million in advanced analytical microscopes and equipment for microstructural and materials analysis across 6,500 square feet.
