FA6633-15-B-0006/QJKL 14-0014 & QJKL 14-0020

Repair Roofs, Building 821 & Building 617

QUESTIONS/RESPONSES: BLDG 617

1.

On building 617 is it the government’s intention to demolish the existing roof down to the steel decking, removing the unknown dimension or material of insulation and plank? If No, should the current insulation R value + the R value of 2 inch ISO is less than R 33 what does the government want us to do?

RESPONSE: YES. THE GOVERNMENTS INTENT IS TO DEMOLISH THE EXISTING ROOF DOWN TO THE METAL DECKING BECAUSE THERE IS NO INFORMATION OF THE CURENT INSULATION R-VALUE. ALSO, THE REVISED QJKL 14-0020 MUNITIONS STORAGE ROOF REPAIR DRAWINGS DATED 11 MAY 2015 WILL SHOW THE TOTAL R-VALUE OF 38 INSTEAD OF 33. THE R-VALUE OF 38 IS THE TOTAL OF ALL NEW DIFFERENT MATERIALS APPLIED TO THE ROOF. THE CHANGES AND MATERIALS WILL BE INCORPORATED INTO THE REVISED DRAWING SET DATED 11 MAY 2015.

2.

What is the original insulation material & thickness?

RESPONSE: THIS IS UNKOWN. IT WILL BE REPLACED WITH NEW MATERIAL. THE CHANGES AND MATERIALS WILL BE INCORPORATED TO THE DRAWING SET DATED 11 MAY 2015.

3.

What is the average R value of the existing roof?

RESPONSE: THIS IS UNKOWN. IT WILL BE REPLACED WITH NEW MATERIAL. THE CHANGES AND MATERIALS WILL BE INCORPORATED ON THE REVISED DRAWINGS SET DATED 11 MAY 2015.

4.

There is no specification section for any replacement of plank, what is the government’s intention with the plank material and specifications on this? How would you like the new plank material be secured to the metal deck?

RESPONSE: A REVISED DRAWING WILL SPECIFY ¾” PLYWOOD BOARD AND BE ATTACHED TO THE METAL ROODECK WITH SCREW FASTENERS. THE CHANGES AND MATERIALS WILL BE INCORPORATED TO THE NEW DRAWING SET DATED 11 MAY 2015.

QUESTIONS/RESPONSES: BLDG 821:

1.

On page A-2, General Note 1 – requires demolition down to existing roof deck. Roof deck notes 2-4 suggest replacement of metal decking. What is the government’s intention of including this note on the drawing?

RESPONSE: THE GOVERNMENTS INTENT IS FOR THE CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE TWO PIECES OF METAL DECKING TO COVER THE OPENINGS AFTER THE ABANDONED CURBS ARE REMOVED AS INDICATED BY GENERAL NOTE 10 AND ATTACH THE PIECES WITH SCREW FASTENERS TO THE EXISTING DECKING INSTEAD OF WELDING. ALL ROOF DECK NOTES WILL BE DELETED. BE ADVISED THAT THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE CURRENT ROOF DECK DIMENSIONS BY FIELD VERIFICATION. THE CHANGES WILL BE INCORPORATED TO THE NEW CLEAN SET OF QJKL 140014 REPAIR ROOF, BUILDING 821(SHEET METAL AREA) NEW DRAWINGS DATED 5/19/2015.

2.

On page E-1, Note 3 indicates an upswing access door to be installed, where the plan note’s a downswing access door to be installed. What is the government’s intention with the access door opening in which direction?

RESPONSE: NOTE 3 INTENT WAS TO INDICATE ALSO “DOWNSWING” BECAUSE THERE IS NO ROOM TO PLACE A 2’ (H) BY 3’ (W) ACCESS DOOR IN EIGHT INCHES OF SPACE BETWEEN THE ROOF DECK AND THE PLASTER CEILING. THE GENERAL NOTE 3 WILL BE EDITED ACCORDINGLY.

THE CHANGES WILL BE INCORPORATED TO THE REVISED SET OF QJKL 140014 REPAIR ROOF, BUILDING 821(SHEET METAL AREA) REVISED DRAWINGS NEW DRAWINGS DATED 5/19/2015.

3.

On page E-1, Note 4 suggests extending existing supply and return ducks to the new elevation for the make-up air unit. Page A-2 HVAC-duck work and accessories suggests replacement of shop duct work with duck turning vanes and 1” external fiberglass duct insulation. Is it the government’s intention just to raise the supply and return within the curb area?

RESPONSE: THIS IS CORRECT. THE GOVERNMENTS INTENT IS TO EXTEND THE EXISTING DUCTWORK WITHIN THE CURB AREA. SINCE THE CURRENT DUCTWORK IS A STRAIGHT SECTION ON BOTH SUPPLY AND RETURN, THE DUCT TURNING VANES REQUIREMENT MENTIONED ON NOTE 5 WILL NOT APPLY. THIS NOTE WILL BE DELETED. CURRENTLY, THE DUCTWORK THAT BELONGS TO THE MAK-UP AIR UNIT IN THE SHEET METAL SHOP DOES NOT HAVE ANY INSULATION. BY THE WAY, THE SAME INTENT ALSO APPLIES TO THE EXISTING STAIRWELL EXHAUST FAN INDICATED BY GENERAL NOTE 11 ON SHEET A 2 AS THE MUA UNIT. THE EXISTING PRV DUCTWORK CURRENT LOCATION WILL BE ADDED AND A RESPECTIVE NOTE WIL BE ADDED SIMILAR TO THE MUA ON DRAWING SHEET E-1. NOTE 6, INSULATION REQUIREMENT ALSO WILL NOT APPLY. THE CHANGES WILL BE INCORPORATED TO THE REVISED SET OF DRAWINGS DATED 5/19/2015.
