Scope
The aircraft doors on the existing four-bay hangar, Building 1335, are worn and damaged from approximately 25 years of regular use. The doors are tilt-up style doors weighing approximately 16,000 pounds each, with two counterweights and one motor per door. There are two doors per bay, for a total of eight doors in the building.
There are several types of damage apparent on the doors. The cables which raise and lower the doors are misaligned and have caused wear on the building structure. The perimeter of the doors no longer seal against the weather. The doors have accumulated minor scrapes and dents over the years. The insulation in the doors has degraded over time and has severely reduced thermal efficiency.
All eight doors are to be removed and refurbished. The existing warning system is to be replaced in-kind.
All counterweights and motors are to be removed and replaced. The existing two-counterweight-per-door system shall be replaced with a single-counterweight-per-door system.
Existing Structure
The existing building structure shall not be modified except for minor alterations to ensure proper operation of door. The wear on the structural members caused by existing misaligned sheaves is minor in nature and does not affect the building’s structural integrity. The renovated connections to the building

STRUCTURAL NARRATIVE
structure shall be similar in type and location to the existing connections so that the load conditions on the existing structure are unchanged.
Door tracks and supporting framework
The existing structural steel door tracks shall be removed and replaced. Additional cable guides and sheave bracing shall be attached to the roof structure as needed to assure proper alignment of the cables and sheaves.
Counterweights
The current counterweights and support frames are to be removed in their entirety. New counterweights are to be installed with appropriate support frames. Each counterweight consists of a steel case filled with reinforced concrete. The dimensions of the counterweights are based on the required weight and the available floor space. Three different counterweight configurations are detailed, to account for differences in floor plans amongst the four bays. The location of the counterweights varies to avoid interference with the existing utilities.
The counterweights shall be constructed after the doors have been refurbished and weighed, to ensure proper system balance. The final weight of each counterweight shall be adjusted as necessary during installation by the addition of steel plates to the top of the counterweight.
