QUESTIONS & ANSWERS FOR
FA4626-R-0005 Anti-Ram Cables Group B 13 Jun 2016
1. Temporary gate is supplied by the government. It must be same voltage, phase, and amperage as existing one as the circuit is used to run the temporary gate. Is control box on same side?
A: In the meeting it was talked about that the temp gate could be fed by the existing gate power and could be run temporarily to either side that would be required to make the temp gate functional. The fence will need to be modified to gain access to the control box side in order for it to work on either side of the road.
2. What is voltage, phase, and amperage of ex. gate?
A: 208 VAC single phase, 20 amp circuit.
3. Can we feed the temporary gate on the surface with SO cord?
A: SO cord would be acceptable provided NEC requirements for temporary wiring is followed and the cable is protected/routed from traffic.
4. Are unused pipes between pull boxes just to be capped and left in pull boxes?
A: Yes
5. There are to be no splices in pull boxes. It should be pipe all the way even in pull boxes correct?
A: The conduits terminate/initiate in their respective pull boxes (power and communication), but there will be no wire splicing allowed in the pull boxes.
6. There are 4 pull boxes joined by the new ductbank. We will have to core drill all the small pipes that enter from the building and those that exit to the new gate. Do you want some nipples out now for future work? It will cost a lot more to put in later. If wanted we would need to know size, quantity and location.
A: No, not at this time. We currently would not know size, quantity or location.
7. Conduit in pull boxes is rigid with pvc coating. Is new underground conduit the same?
A: Yes.
8. We are to tie posts to existing cathodic ring(which we have done many times) per detail 1 and 5 on sheet CX-505, yet specification 264200 is for a new system to be installed. Can we just install per details 1 and 5 on sheet CX-505 and show inspector?
A: Yes, install per details and show the inspector.
9. Note 5 and 7 on sheets ES-401 through ES-405 mention attaching to a cathodic grounding rod, yet it is an existing cable per detail 5 on sheet CX-505. Can grounding rod be removed and the word cable put in its place?
A: Yes, it is cathodic protection cable, not grounding rod. The drawings will be updated in the forthcoming addendum.
10. Detail 3 on sheet CX-504 calls out for a 4” pvc with (4) 1-1/4” pvc coated rigid conduits in it.
1-1/4 pvc coated rigid is 1.74 inches in diameter, and four will not fit in the 4” pvc. The couplings will be even larger. Same for the communication conduit with ¾” and 1” in it. This detail should be the 6” pvc. Will it be changed to read 6” pvc?
A: This question will be addressed in the forthcoming amendment.
