QUESTIONS & ANSWERS FOR

FA4626-R-0005 Anti-Ram Cables Group D 27 Jun 2016

1. Can you please provide a connection detail describing the connection of the bollards at the gate operators to the cable fence?

A. A separate detail for this connection is not shown. Referring to General Notes 27, where no specific details are shown, construction shall conform to similar work on the project. This connection is expected to be similar to Details 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 on Drawing No. CX-501.

2. Regarding the connection details between cable barrier and connected bollards and Jersey barriers at I-01, the Cable Barrier plan shows connecting cables while the Entrance Plan doesn’t show this connection. Similar missing information is also on the other sites as well. Is there a gap between the cable terminal and the connected bollards that is unprotected?

A. The site plans show the cable between the Terminal Posts and the Channel Bollard Posts, but the Entrance Plans do not show this cable; this was inadvertently left off, there is to be no gap between the Terminal Post and the Channel Bollard Post. The Entrance Plans were mainly showing the duct-bank, gate and jersey barriers, not the cable barrier. To clarify, a three wire cable connection between the Terminal Post and the Channel Bollard Post needs to be installed. Install similar to the Details shown on Drawing No. CX-501.

3. Can you please provide a connection detail for the Jersey barriers to the cable barrier? The description in Note 8, of the Entrance Plans is not clear enough to know exactly what you are looking for.

A. A detail is not provided, but the following is an attempt to provide more clarification on what is intended to be done per Note 8 on the Entrance Plans. The distance between the Concrete Jersey Barrier and the Terminal Post is intended to be very short and it would not be possible to make a standard cable connection; the connection is to be made using one ¾” cable loop between the Terminal Post and the Concrete Jersey Barrier, route the cable through the three embedded steel loops on the end of the Concrete Jersey Barrier and through the three 1-1/4” galvanized shackles on the Terminal Post end, pull tight and terminate the two ends of the cable similar to Detail 6/CX-501 using four cable grips (due to space limitations, this cable termination may need to be installed in a vertical position and secured to stay in the correct position). The shackles identified will need to be sized appropriately to make the connection to the Clip Plate and allow the ¾” cable to pass through.

4. On CLIN 0002 AB and CLIN 0002 AC, they both included "Work shall also include all costs for labor, materials, and equipment to excavate for bollards, build bollards, build concrete for bollards.” Please explain which bollards are included in which item.

A. The bollards can be split up how you see fit and accounted for in either CLIN or both CLINs, just don’t double count the bollards by including all of them in both of the CLINs.

5. Please clarify where the Cable Terminal posts in detail 4 on CX-501 are located. Are these posts the 4th connected post located adjacent to the automated gate? Is there a C-Channel attached to this post?

A. Detail 4/CX-501 is referred to from Detail 1/CX-501. Between two Terminal Posts there is to be one end with turnbuckle end (Detail 6/CX-501 and the other end is to have a swaged end (Detail 4/CX-501).
