QUESTION AND ANSWERS

1. Drawing FP-OOI Note 26 - Note 26 refers to painting of pipe. Specifications do not provide painting specification. Will on be provided?

Answer: Due to the limited amount of painting that specification section was omitted. Use the following:

Fire Extinguishing Sprinkler Systems

Clean, pretreat, prime, and paint new fire extinguishing sprinkler systems including valves, piping, conduit, hangers, supports, miscellaneous metalwork, and accessories. Apply coatings to clean, dry surfaces, using clean brushes. Clean the surfaces to remove dust, dirt, rust, and loose mill scale. Immediately after cleaning, provide the metal surfaces with one coat primer per schedules. Shield sprinkler heads with protective covering while painting is in progress. Upon completion of painting, remove protective covering from sprinkler heads. Remove sprinkler heads which have been painted and replace with new sprinkler heads. Provide primed surfaces with the following:

a. Piping in Unfinished Areas: Provide primed surfaces with one coat of red alkyd gloss enamel applied to a minimum dry film thickness of 1.0 mil in Trailer Maintenance Bay Room 103, attic spaces, spaces above suspended ceilings, crawl spaces, pipe chases, mechanical equipment room, and spaces where walls or ceiling are not painted or not constructed of a prefinished material.

b. Piping in Finished Areas: Provide primed surfaces with two coats of paint to match adjacent surfaces, except provide valves and operating accessories with one coat of red alkyd gloss enamel applied to a minimum dry film thickness of 1.0 mil. Provide piping with 2 inch wide red enamel bands or self-adhering red plastic bands spaced at maximum of 20 foot intervals throughout the piping systems.

2. Drawing FP-OOI Note #24 - All fire sprinkler piping to be labeled. Does the contractor have to include labeling all piping new and existing?

Answer: Label only the new piping.

3. RFP Section 21 13 13.0010 Paragraph 2.5.1.2; PWS Paragraph Fittings for Non-Grooved Steel Pipe - Galvanized fittings shall be used for piping systems or portion of piping systems utilizing galvanized piping. Is the existing system piping galvanized?

Answer: No.

4. Drawing FP-002 Enlarged Plans (see attachment "A") - Should the contractor cap the existing 12" water line that currently feeds the fire suppression systems? See attachment "A" for clarification of question.

Answer: Yes.

5. What is the depth of the existing underground fire lines?

Answer: 3ft

6. Regarding the installation of the underground fire main on the northeast corner, if the existing valve can't be found how will the water be shut off in order to make the tie in?

Answer: The Base Civil Engineering Plumbing Shop will handle the shut off

7.Exisiting pipe appears to be black steel in areas where paint has peeled. Above sections call for galvenized is this correct or is the use of black steel schedule 40 allowed since this will be a wet system and all new pipe will be painted?

Answer: The specification is correct, new pipe will be galvanized pipe.

8. Will project CAD drawings be made available for use as over lay to produce shop drawings at no additional cost?

Answer: YES

9. Who will be responsible for repair of leaks on existing system piping / joints which have not had any modifications which occur during hydrostatic testing?

Answer: The government will be responsible for repairs to existing piping. The design engineer recommends testing the system with air, prior to hydrostatic test with water.

10. Please verify that all exisiting sprinkler heads, 745 are to be replaced with new heads.

Answer: Yes that is correct.

11. Drawing indicated quick response 155 degree upright sprinkler heads. Please confirm use of quick response head and temperature in lieu of standard response heads for OH group 2.

Answer: 155F quick response sprinklers are acceptable per NFPA 13 for OH group 2

12. During the site visit, it was observed that a majority of the high-bay floor space was occupied by modular offices, large vehicles, storage containers, bulk storage, etc. We were informed that these items will not be moved by the government prior to or during construction. There is nothing in the solicitation documents that identify the significant interferences that exist with regards to access, yet the site visit was non-mandatory. Please provide details regarding the limited accessibility Answer: A large portion of the high-bay floor space at hangar 313 is occupied by modular offices, large vehicles, storage containers, bulk storage, etc. Vehicles will be moved, with prior coordination, to facilitate construction.
