About this file

This specification document outlines the technical requirements for a Radar Vehicle Detection System in Texas, detailing the VantageRadius and VantageRadius+ radar sensors manufactured by Iteris, Inc. The specification includes two sensor head options designed for intersection vehicle detection, with the VantageRadius configured for stop bar detection at ranges up to 325 feet and the VantageRadius+ offering both stop bar and advance detection capabilities at ranges up to 600 feet. Both sensor types utilize 24 GHz 4D radar technology capable of detecting vehicles in all weather conditions, tracking up to 64 objects simultaneously with speed accuracy of ±1 mph. The system incorporates integrated high-resolution 1.3MP cameras with 70-degree viewing angles for live video streaming and monitoring, operable across temperature ranges of -35°F to +165°F with IP67-rated weatherproof enclosures. The specifications detail two mounting configurations: a 19-inch rack mount CCU requiring 110/220V power at 20W maximum, and a NEMA shelf mount CCU utilizing 48VDC at 120W with external power supply options supporting up to four sensors per configuration.

The document specifies complementary infrastructure components including a universal aluminum camera mounting bracket designed for both horizontal and vertical pole installation, and CAT5E 350MHz outdoor direct burial shielded cable for signal transmission. The system provides 32 detection zones with up to 64 configurable outputs and inputs through extension modules, features low power consumption at 5W for sensor operations, and includes simple Cat5e/Cat6e cabling for reduced lifecycle costs. All equipment carries a three-year limited warranty and meets regulatory compliance standards including NEMA TS-2, FCC Part 15 Class A, and RoHS directives. The integrated detection system is built on the Iteris Vantage Next platform and includes monitoring capabilities through the Iteris Video Viewer mobile application or traffic management center video walls, enabling agencies to view live streams and validate detection performance in real-time.

VantageRadius®

Radar technology and streaming video for stop bar and advance detection

4D / HD radar presence detection with choice of two sensor types

The VantageRadius® system has a choice of two sensor types – the VantageRadius sensor head, designed specifically for stop bar detection at the intersection, and the VantageRadius+ sensor head with the same stop bar detection capabilities but with added advance detection.

The VantageRadius and VantageRadius+ sensor heads can be installed together at a single intersection allowing for flexibility in designing the right detection for specific traffic engineering needs. VantageRadius and VantageRadius+ sensor heads utilize the latest 4D, high-resolution radar technology, incorporating distance, speed, angle and height measurements to accurately detect vehicles approaching the intersection in any weather condition.

Detection in any weather condition

Forward-fire radar for accurate vehicle detection range up to 600 feet – eliminating occlusion

High resolution video streaming for intersection monitoring

State-of-the-art radar and enhanced detection algorithms allow VantageRadius to accurately detect vehicles and speeds as they approach the intersection, enabling the intersection to operate at peak efficiency. The system is built on the simple-to-use Vantage Next® platform and continues the Iteris tradition of ease of installation and simple configuration.

Monitor your intersection with live video stream

The VantageRadius and VantageRadius+ sensors include an integrated high-resolution digital camera to stream live video back to a central management location, providing agencies with the ability to monitor and take action on the operation of their intersection. This video stream can also replace or augment existing surveillance cameras to view live video on a traffic management center video wall or the Iteris Video Viewer mobile application.
