The following question involves three (3) work items # 213 Bow Thruster Maint., #217 Main Propulsion Motors Maint. and #218 Generator Maint.

Q. All three of the above work items call for testing done by a load bank test. Load bank testing is only done to test a diesel engine with attached generator. Item #218 can be done without concerns. The other two work items are electrical motors, which can only be load tested at 100% by running the bow thruster and propulsion motors on a sea trial. The specifications call for a dock trial. These motors can’t be operated at full load while the vessel is tied up to a wet berth. You have to test them during a sea trial. The current specifications does not include a sea trial work item.

R. Load bank testing has been deleted. Motors/generators to be tested during dock trial.

Q. We suggest deleting paragraph 7.1 on work item #213, paragraph 7.1 of work item #217 and add a separate work item to accomplish a sea trial to test the bow thruster motor and propulsion motors.

R. See response to question 1 above.

Q. On work item 213 Bow Thruster Motor Maint. paragraph 6.8 calls out to renew one (1) set of brushes and holders. Please specify how many are in a set. The motor has four (4) sets of 4 brushes. Do we replace 4 or the entire 16.

R. Entire 16 to be renewed.

Q. This same question applies to work item 217 paragraph 6.8 R. Entire set to be renewed.

Q. Regarding the General Rudder specifications, Item no. 221 Install New High Temp

Dishwasher states the contractor is to provide two (2) new Jackson Avenger HT-E dishwashers.

Item no. 221, paragraph 6.2 is asking the shipyard to “determine” if existing connections are functioning properly, compatible and in good order. We can tell beforehand that there is a compatibility issue.

Looking at the provided Electrical One-Line Diagram DWG NO. 1355-S62-1-1 REV-B, the existing electrical cabling from Galley Power Panel P114 to the existing dishwashers is shown as cable type D-4 (15A) 115VAC.

The dishwasher model Avenger HT-E specifications require 208VAC at 38.4A, or 230VAC at 41.4A, or 480VAC at 11.3A. These requirements can be seen in the attached cut sheet for the dishwasher.

The voltage and cable size servicing the existing dishwasher installation is not compatible with the newly specified dishwasher.

It is advised to select a proper electrical power source, identify appropriate cable routing from the source, and modify the vessel repair specifications accordingly. The cost of providing proper

Page | 6 power to the new dishwashers, depending on the power source and cable route, could potentially exceed the cost of the new dishwashers themselves.

Nearby power panels will need to be assessed for ample remaining capacity to support these two new dishwashers, as these electrical loads are not insignificant. This is not something that can be easily determined from our side of things while estimating the job.

R. New dishwashers are to be configured for 480V. New, appropriately sized breakers are to be furnished and installed in the galley’s 480V power panel (P418) in the existing spare breaker slots. New appropriately sized wiring is to be installed from the breaker panel to the new dishwashers, an approximate 40 ft run. Wiring and installation methods are to be as required by Coast Guard regulations and ABS rules. Specification has been revised accordingly.

Q. Work item 502 paragraph 6.2.9 states the propellers were removed in work item 207. It should be 208. Item 208 does not address the removal of the propellers. Please clarify your intentions.

R. This is a typo and has been corrected. Propellers are to be removed and reinstalled per modified item 502.

Item 203 – Hull Preparation and Coatings

Q. Item 203 – Would the 29,800 sq ft include the interior of the sea chest, bow thruster and the “Upper Bow Area”?

Q. Item 203 – We cannot find a surface preparation listed for the Under Water Hull (5.13.1)?

There is a surface preparation listed for the Sea Chest and other hull items in 5.14.1 but not the underwater hull.

R. Abrasive blast to SSPC-SP6-85, “Commercial Metal Blast”. Please refer to section 5.16.

Q. Item 203 – Could UHP water blasting to a WJ-3 (commercial standard) be utilized instead of grit?

R. UHP will not be used unless specifically stated in the specification.

Item 208 Propeller Inspection, Maintenance and Repairs

Q. 6.3 Specification states to take readings in 4-72-1 & 4-72-2 F.O. tanks. What amount of fuel will be in tanks on arrival to ship yard?
