About this file
This is a Surface Surveillance Systems Inspection Report for an ASDE (Airport Surface Detection Equipment) site located at DEN Remote (Denver) conducted on August 20, 2024. The inspection assesses the physical condition, functionality, and serviceability of site assets including the 90-foot tower, antenna system, and shelter buildings to determine compliance with operational standards and tolerances.
The inspection identified two critical deficiencies requiring immediate attention: the tower painting is in poor condition with 100% of the surface area requiring repainting, and the elevator is non-operational with missing stop plates on the rails, making both the elevator and ladder unsafe for use. A stair tower will be installed to replace the unsafe access. Additionally, moderate deficiencies include the need to replace the broken hydraulic assist for the hatch door, install saddle clamps on the first-level grating, and replace a lock on the equipment shelter door. The assessment also noted issues with the drive system workspace accessibility. The ASDE-3 system includes asset serial numbers for the pedestal assembly (M032) and slipring (210-R02). Lead Technician Mark Hughes (405-620-6976) and SSC Manager Norm Pratt (303-342-1415) are the primary contacts. The PMO's objective is to extend antenna life up to 10 years and tower life up to 20 years, with this inspection providing critical input for maintenance planning and resource allocation.

Surface Surveillance Systems Assessment Report 2
Introduction
The PMO desires to extend the life of ASDE antennas up to 10 years until a new antenna is approved and installed, and extend the life of the ASDE towers up to 20 years to support the new antennas.
This ASDE inspection project is an input to the PMO to aid their decision-making regarding what tasks need to be performed at each site to meet these desires.
The inspection project includes a hands-on inspection of the physical condition and functionality or serviceability of site assets including the tower, antenna system, and shelter buildings to determine whether the standards and tolerances for operations are being maintained. When the existing condition, functionality or serviceability are determined to be out of required standards and tolerances a corrective action has been provided to facilitate repairs.
Recommendations
Tower paint is in poor condition. Entire tower should be painted.
Install saddle clamps on grating on first level.
Replace broken hydraulic assist for hatch door.
Elevator is unusable and stop plates were not found on elevator rails. Elevator and ladder are both unsafe to use. Stair tower will be installed alongside the remote tower.
