1 Name: Kelsey Hollien How long with company? 1 year
Current position in company: Aquatic Ecologist How long in position? 1 year
Position for the Services: Aquatic Ecologist How much of time will be dedicated to the Services? 100%
What primary functions will be assigned?
Conducting fieldwork, collecting field data, collecting and processing samples, providing QA/QC on macroinvertebrate identification, data organization and input onto databases.
Describe person’s experience in performing services like those that are to be assigned:
Ms. Hollien possesses five years of experience conducting biological fieldwork in the southwest United States, much of which has focused on the health of waterways in Arizona. She served as a Field Crew member on the ADEQ Spring 2018 Ambient Surface Water Nutrient Sampling effort. She processed macroinvertebrate, water quality, and algae samples using ADEQ SOP protocol and evaluated the abiotic and biotic properties of Arizona stream systems. In addition, she has served as a Research Specialist in the University of Arizona’s aquatic ecology lab, where she collected and processed macroinvertebrate and water quality samples from the Santa Cruz River (including identifying macroinvertebrates). She served as Lead Habitat Assessment Technician for Bureau of Land Management/University of Southern Utah Aquatic Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring Protocol, where she collected macroinvertebrate and water quality samples and assessed the health and stability of the riparian area of streams in southeastern Utah.
She has surveyed streams throughout Arizona for Quitobaquito pupfish, Sonoran mud turtles, and aquatic macroinvertebrates, as well as fish microhabitat parameters and riparian vegetation. She also has extensive experience in data organization and management, planning and leading sampling trips, and training crew members in sampling protocols.
While working on the 2018 Ambient Surface Water Nutrient Sampling effort, Ms.
Hollien gained experience in the use of various methods and equipment used for Stream Ecosystem Monitoring and Stream Chemistry surveys that included, but was not limited to, macroinvertebrate sample collection, algae/periphyton sample collection, Pfankuch Channel Stability Assessment, Rosgen Stream Classification System, pebble counts, flow meter use, vegetation class cover assessment, densiometer use, In-Situ SmarTroll multiprobe use, total and dissolved metals sampling and processing using a Geopump peristaltic pump, turbidity sampling and processing using a Hach portable turbidimeter, and E. coli sampling and processing using the IDEXX quanti-tray system.
List person’s job-related training, certification and education:
Ms. Hollien obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and a minor in Natural Resource Management from the University of Arizona in 2017. She is earning a Master’s of Science degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Arizona (projected graduation Fall 2021) with a focus on Fisheries Conservation and Management.
Ms. Hollien has extensive training and experience from the Dr. Bogan Lab at the University of Arizona in collecting and identifying aquatic macroinvertebrates. She has authored several papers on stream ecosystem health as part of her Master’s of Science research on microplastic pollution in the effluent-dependent Lower Santa Cruz River.

4 Name: Nicholas Miller How long with company? 1 year
Current position in company: Botanist How long in position? 1 year
Position for the Services: Botanist How much of time will be dedicated to the Services? 100%
What primary functions will be assigned?
Conducting fieldwork and collecting field data; providing expertise in plant taxa identification; assisting with trip logistics and field equipment management;
providing QA/QC on plant identification and overall field data; assisting with data organization and input onto Survey123.
Describe person’s experience in performing services like those that are to be assigned:
Mr. Miller has completed several vegetative surveys that required the identification of FACW and OBL plant species, including conducting pre- and post-monsoon vegetation surveys along the SCR in Tucson, AZ, contracted through the City of Tucson. Vegetation surveys along the SCR riparian areas included the identification of algae taxa and estimation of algae cover. He has also executed vegetation studies that included relevé plot surveys that required the classification of upland versus wetland plant species along the SCR for a project administered through Pima County Regional Flood Control District.
Mr. Miller has extensive experience in leading crews in the field to follow strict plant and soil sampling protocols through his employment with the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON). Survey protocols involved lab analyses of plant taxa using dichotomous keys and preparing voucher specimens for the NEON herbarium.
He has carried out aquatic sampling protocols at the NEON limnology site at Sycamore Creek on the Tonto National Forest, and seine net fish sampling at Aravaipa Creek. He has experience collecting invertebrate specimens in the field and processing, preparing, and mounting them in the laboratory.
Mr. Miller has demonstrated meticulous data analysis and QA/QC methods that will serve well in his abilities to enter data onto Survey123. His ability to complete rigorous fieldwork coupled with his competent data management and vegetation species identification skills make him an excellent candidate to complete SDAM work.
List person’s job-related training, certification and education:
Mr. Miller earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology in 2012. He has since dedicated his career to desert field botany, with extensive experience and training in plant identification. This includes training in dozens of sampling protocols in botany, limnology, soil, and invertebrates at NEON and The Nature Conservancy. He attended the 2018 Grass Identification Workshop taught by Mike Bauer at the University of Arizona Herbarium a. He represented NEON at the 2018 Research Insights in Semiarid Ecosystems (RISE) conference.
Mr. Miller earned Firefighter Type II certification at the 2019 Arizona Wildfire Incident Management Academy (AWIMA), including the completion of the work capacity test at the arduous level.
