Marin Headlands

Replace 43kW 480v Natural Gas Generator

Golden Gate National Recreation Area

Objective

Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) desires to solicit a request for quote to qualified vendors to replace the existing 43kW 480v Three-Phase Natural Gas Genset in lift station 659 Sommerville Rd, Sausalito

California 94965.

Background

The Marin Headlands and Fort Baker have a robust community of park visitors, non-profits, park partners, residences, concessionaires, and housing for 134 NPS staff members and interns. Over 4 million visitors per year visit the Marin Headlands. Sewage from the Marin Headlands is pumped via forced main through the

Baker Barry tunnel to pump station 659. Pump station 659 is the final station in Fort Baker. From this station, all sewage produced in the Marin Headlands and Fort Baker is pumped via forced main out of the park to the

Sausalito Sewer District. The station pumps around 60,000 gallons of sewage a day during dry weather and

150,000 gallons during rain events. The station is powered by three-phase power supplied by PG&E and is backed up by a NPS-owned stationary natural gas generator. In December 2024 it was discovered that the generator had been significantly damaged and was no longer operable. Replacement of the existing genset with a new genset that matches the performance standards of the existing is required.

Project Description

The contractor will be responsible for the removal and disposal of the existing Cummings generator (model

#GGFE-545543, Serial #F0900090544). The contractor will furnish and fully install new genset that matches the performance characterizes of the existing generator. All electrical, controls, gas, and mechanical exhaust connections must be completed by the vendor. No modifications of the existing building are allowed. The contractor will test operation of all equipment. The new generator must be compliant with the rules and regulations of the California Air Resource Board (CARB) and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

• The genset shall be UL listed.

• All controls shall be fully accessible.

• Contractor is responsible for field verifying measurements and the suitability of all existing connections, pads, etc.

• The contractor shall furnish park a one-year warranty of parts and labor upon acceptance.

Complete system shall not be shut down for longer than 90 minutes. If the contractor requires longer than a 90-minute shutdown to perform the work, the contractor shall provide sewage truck pumping/transport to the upstream manhole to maintain uninterrupted services to the sewage line during the ongoing repair activities.

Cleanup of any sewer overflows during work on the system will be the responsibility of the contractor.

Contractor will also be responsible for any fees or fines associated with any sewage spills during the generator swap.

Contractor will be responsible for removal and proper disposal of all old equipment. Any gaskets, adhesives, lubricants, or incidental parts will be furnished by the contractor.

Prior to the notice to proceed, contractor will provide, at a minimum, the following submittals:

• Designation of project superintendent and project manager

• Proof of insurance and bonding

• Site Specific Safety & Health plan

• Proof of California license (GC and/or electrical)

• Genset 1

ON-SITE WORK HOURS: Work shall be generally performed during normal business working hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except when otherwise indicated. No holiday will be allowed.
