About this file
This document is an attachment detailing container specifications for a National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Reverse Osmosis-Deionized (RO-DI) system container at the Flatirons Campus in Arvada, Colorado. The specification calls for a standard 20' ISO Connex container modified to house an RO-DI skid, with specific environmental and technical requirements including the ability to withstand ambient temperatures from -20°F to 110°F and external wind speeds up to 155 mph. The container must include electric insulation and heating to maintain a minimum internal temperature of 40°F during extreme cold conditions.
The technical specifications outline precise electrical requirements, including available AC power at 120V/220V/208V three-phase, with all electrical components 50V or higher requiring NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory) listing. NREL will provide unloading services, container anchoring, and a precast concrete pad for ballast weight. The document indicates a preference for GFCI breakers on AC powered circuits and a listed electrical panel assembly. Delivery is specified to NREL's Flatirons Campus, with the container serving as an equipment enclosure for the RO-DI system described in a separate specification document (Request A).

Attachment 3 - RO-DI ContainerSpecs_R2
NREL MMW RO-DI Container Specs (Request B) NREL MMW RO-DI Container will be able to be provided as a second portion to NREL MMW RO-DI System Specs (Request A).
Container Specifications This request is for a heated and insulated container to house the RO-DI skid that is specified in NREL MMW RO-DI System Specs (Request A). This will include one standard 20’ ISO Connex container that is modified to act as an equipment enclosure.
Container will need to be able to withstand the following conditions:
Ambient Conditions (-20 – 110F) with external windspeeds up to 155 mph.
Standard 20’ ISO container preferred for windspeeds and ease of anchoring. Longer container could be accommodated if necessary.
Insulation and heating (electric only) to maintain minimum internal temperature of 40 F with outside -20 F ambient during 50 mph winds
NREL will provide unloading service and can anchor container and provide precast concrete pad for ballast weight.
Available AC power: 120V/220V/208V3ph – any electrical component that is 50 V or higher will be required to meet NRTL (UL listed, CSA, etc.) listing requirements. The electrical panel is not required to be listed as an assembly, but a listed panel assembly will be strongly preferred. If breaker panel is provided, GFCI breakers will be preferred for any AC powered circuits.
Delivery: Delivery will be to NREL’s Flatirons Campus:
Flatirons Campus National Renewable Energy Laboratory Attn: Jeffrey Mohr 19001 W. 119th Avenue Arvada, CO 80007
