3.47. U.S. military retirees authorized to receive mail must complete a statement acknowledging their limited MPO privileges and providing proof of residency in the country the post office is located. Proof of residency can be any letter from the host nation that contains their name, street address, and city. This also applies to contingency postal activities. Attach source record documentation validating authority for postal services (i.e., orders, contract, and retiree statement) to the AF Form 624 and maintain the documents until the mail-forwarding period expires. Parent post offices have the option of handling directory services centrally for Unit Mail Rooms (UMR) or delegating that responsibility to UMRs; if delegated, parent MPO will validate compliance during UMR inspections. As per DoD 4525.6-M, C3.4.2.1, MPSA, and USAFE AIRPS guidance.

5. Military retired personnel can use DD Form 2258, Temporary Mail Disposition Instructions to place their mail on hold as long as it doesn’t exceed 30 days.
