1 Water Softener Specifications

Is it the Construction Contractor's responsibility to meet the specifications with a Water Softener model (i.e. they come up with a model that meets all of the contract requirements), or is there a specified water softener model intended but not listed in the contract documents?

In Specifications Sheet 17 & 18 of 83, Section 22 30 00 Plumbing Equipment, Part 1 General, 1.01 Section Includes Water Softeners.

Add to this paragraph: “It is the Contractor’s responsibility to test the water conditions, and select an appropriate softener that meets or exceeds the flow and hardness criteria listed given the existing water condition.”

2 State License Requirements

Does the Plumbing or Heating contractor need to be licensed in the State of Michigan?

In Specifications Section 22 00 11 General Conditions, Part 1 General, Paragraph 1.06 Codes and Standards….

Add the following: "Installing Contactor shall be Licensed to perform the work in his or her state. The contractor need not be licensed in the State of Michigan."

3 Permits Are any permits required (mechanical, building, electrical, etc.)?

In Specifications Sheets 3, 21, and 56 of 83, Section 22 00 11 General Provisions, Part 1 General, 1.10 Inspections and Fees, A., Section 23 00 11 General Provisions, Part 1 General, 1.10 Inspections and Fees, A., and Section 26 00 11 Basic Materials and Methods, Part 1 General, 1.08 Inspections and Fees, A.

Natural Gas Service near meter

Who's responsible for completing the update of Natural Gas (NG) service at the NG meter, the Contractor or the Gas company?

Drawing Sheet M2, note 3) "Replace service to Match Capacity (SEMCO Energy)."

Clarification: SEMCO, the gas utility company shall be responsible for supplying a new meter and regulator, this Contractor shall coordinate and install.

Natural Gas Service near meter

Clarify 2) "Provide 2# to inch regulator at each appliance (3)."

Drawing Sheet M2, note 2) "Provide 2# to inch regulator at each appliance (3)."

Clarification: Drawing note indicates providing 2# regulator at each appliance. Existing service provides natural gas at inches of water column. The service pressure will be increased to 2 pounds. The contractor must provide a step-down regulator from two pounds to the service pressure required for the appliance.

6 Natural Gas Service

What about the asphalt replacement if a new service is required? Would this fall on the contractor?

Drawing Sheet M2.

No asphalt patching is assumed in this project. The services upgrade is likely to involve a new meter and regulator and meter. We do not anticipate a new line to the building. If such work is required, it is outside of the scope of this contract.
