About this file

This document is a set of load limit guidelines for the Blue Ridge Parkway. It specifies the gross vehicle weight restrictions for single units and combination units with 2 to 5 or more axles. The limits range from 40,000 lbs (18,100 kg) for 2-axle single units up to 66,000 lbs (29,600 kg) for combination units with 5 or more axles. The guidelines also state that further load restrictions may be imposed when the ground is saturated or during freezing/thawing conditions, or when crossing Parkway bridges. Vehicles must not exceed 40 mph (65 kph) and must maintain 500 ft (150m) spacing, with a 25 mph (40 kph) speed limit on bridges. Haulers of overweight/oversize loads must submit vehicle and load details for special consideration, and will be required to repair any damage to the Government's specifications at no cost.
