About this file
This is Addendum No. 1 to Invitation for Bids (IFB) #MWJ2605 issued by City Colleges of Chicago for roof replacement services at the South Chicago Learning Center (SCLC), a facility of Olive-Harvey College. The project scope includes roof replacement with a Modified Two Ply Bitumen (MBR) roofing membrane and Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) membrane assembly, retention of the existing metal roof deck, replacement of roof drain piping with metal roof drains from manufacturers including Zurn, J.R. Smith, or MiFAB (or approved equal), and related work. The anticipated project start date is May 10, 2027, with work to be completed within 90 days of that start date. Bids are due electronically through the Euna/Bonfire portal by Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. CDT, with public bid opening and reading scheduled for 12:30 p.m. the same day via Zoom teleconference. Bidders are permitted to submit alternative proposals only in addition to providing a bid for the base scope of work. All bids must acknowledge receipt of this addendum in their submissions.
The addendum addresses clarifications regarding roofing assembly specifications, roof drain replacement requirements, and metal deck scope through a question-and-answer format. Key clarifications confirm that the TPO membrane provides redundancy with the MBR layer, a warranty is required for the roofing system, the existing metal roof deck is to remain in place, and roof drain manufacturers must be either Zurn, J.R. Smith, MiFAB, or approved equal products. The document does not contain information regarding pricing terms, set-asides, funding sources, or award amounts.

BID #MWJ2605 – ROOF REPLACEMENT – SCLC Addendum No. 1
City Colleges of Chicago 2 September 22, 2026
Q4 If we are not allowed to give alternatives, do we have to stick exactly to the scope of work? The only reason I ask is because the new roofing assembly calls out Modified Two Ply Bitumen Roofing membrane to be Hot Mopped on top of the coverboard and underneath the TPO. This seems a bit strange, and I am not sure if some manufactures would give a warranty for this. Could you bring some clarification to this part of the bid?
A. THE TPO WILL PROVIDE REDUNDANCY WITH THE MBR. A WARRANTY IS REQUIRED.
Q5 Specification / Drawing Reference: A100 Note 3, G100 Roof Drains, MD100, A200 detail 3 & 6
Regarding the roof drains there are several contradictions between the Architectural and Mechanical drawings. One set of drawings indicates that the existing roof drains remain and only the piping is replaced. A second set states that the drains should only be replaced if they are in poor condition. A third drawing states that the drains must be replaced entirely.
What is the scope of work required for the roof drains? If the roof drains are to be replaced, can you specify the required brand and model number?
A. PROVIDE METAL ROOF DRAINS TO MATCH EXISTING CONFIGURATION. REPLACE DOW TO CONNECTING HUB. MANUFACTURERS SHALL BE ZURN, J.R. SMITH MiFAB OR APPROVED EQUAL.
Q6 Specification / Drawing Reference:
The general drawings state that the metal deck is to be replaced, while the detail drawings indicate that the deck remains. Please confirm whether the existing metal roof deck is to remain or be removed and replaced as part of the roof replacement scope.
A. THE EXISTING METAL ROOF DECK REMAINS.
Please acknowledge receipt of all Addendum(s) in your bid submissions.
