2. Frequency of compressor cleaning:
a. Frequency of application is as follows:
(1) Engines which have been operated in a sea environment subject to salt water ingestion shall have the compressor inlet section fresh water flushed IAW MPC 723020.1 criteria to rinse away water soluble corrosive deposits from internal surfaces of compressor section.
(2) An engine that has ingested salt water or mist directly into compressor inlet shall receive a fresh water flush after the last flight of the day. This will cover such situations as seashore operations with wind pickup of salt water mist or spray.
(3) Engines not directly exposed to sea air environment, salt laden air, salt water mist or spray during flight or ground operation, but stationed in an area near such conditions, shall receive a fresh wa-ter flush at a minimum every 15 days, unless inspection of engine inlets during weekly inspections or preflight or post flight inspections necessitates a shorter interval.
NOTE: Frequent inspections for evidence of salt deposits and corro-sion in the compressor section shall be necessary to determine the corrosive environment to which the engines have been subjected.
NOTE: Engines flown off shore (from home station) on long route, high altitude, flights to areas where water wash facilities are not avail-able, shall receive fresh water flush wash upon return to home sta-tion.
(4) If able, an engine that will not be operated for an extended period of time and did not receive a fresh water flush after its last flight, shall require a compressor wash prior to going into inactive status. After a compressor wash has been completed, cover engine intake duct, exhaust duct, and close bleed valves.
CAUTION
DO NOT CLEAN THE COMPRESSOR IF AMBIENT AIR TEM-
PERATURE IS BELOW 5 DEGREES F. CLEANING SOLUTION
WILL FREEZE AND ICE CAN DAMAGE COMPRESSOR
BLADES AND VANES.
DO NOT CLEAN COMPRESSOR WITHIN 45 MINUTES OF
ENGINE SHUTDOWN OR UNTIL MEASURED GAS TEMPER-
ATURE IS LESS THAN 71 DEGREES C. DAMAGE COULD
OCCUR TO INTERNAL ENGINE COMPONENTS IF ENGINE IS
HOT.
