About this file

This amendment modifies a solicitation for the OR FS ERFO 2017(1)-18(6) Rogue River Repairs 2017 project. The amendment revises special contract requirements, construction plans, and measurement specifications. Key changes include deleting steel erection certification requirements; revising construction sequencing to include installing steel H-piles in drilled shafts, then pouring concrete in stages; clarifying pile orientation tolerances; and measuring piles from top to approved tip elevations. The solicitation seeks bids for repairing the Rogue River involving drilled shafts, steel H-piles, timber lagging, geocomposite drains, ground anchors, and concrete work. The Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration is the contracting agency. The response due date is not extended by this amendment.

565.03 Qualifications. Delete the Subsection and substitute the following:

Submit the following for acceptance at least 30 days before drilling for soldier piles. Acceptance of the Contractor’s personnel and installation plan does not relieve the Contractor of the responsibility for obtaining the required results in the completed work.

(a) On-site personnel. Provide an on-site professional geotechnical engineer, professional engineering geologist, or professional geologist with at least 3 years of experience in the design and construction of soldier pile walls or drilled shafts to log subsurface profiles.

(2) Provide logs of material condition descriptions from roadway surface to bottom of drilled shafts.

(3) Suggested construction sequence as follows. following:

(a) Drill through material to “bottom of shaft” elevation as shown in the plans. It is acceptable to drill through the existing deep patch face as needed to complete the work.

(b) Install steel H-piles in drilled holes.

(c) Pour Class A concrete to “top of shaft” elevation as shown on the plans.

(e) Excavate existing ground in stable lift heights where needed.

(f) Remove existing rolled erosion control fabric and install geocomposite sheet drain against existing deep patch face or excavated soil face. Ensure contact of the sheet drain fabric side to deep patch aggregate for water conductivity.

(g) Excavate and install timber lagging to the elevations shown in the plans. Treat field sawn ends of timber with wood preservative prior to installation according to Section 557. Do not excavate further than 2ft below the anchor elevations and finish grade elevations shown in the plans.Provide a minimum of 1/4 inch space between lagging boards.

(h) Backfill void between existing cut/deep patch and lagging with lean concrete. Seal lagging from inside as needed to prevent visible leakage between timber lagging.

(i) Install and test ground anchors according to Section 256. Perform performance testing as shown in the plans.

(j) Fill to finished grade as shown in the plans using roadway aggregate.
