Material Ordering Data Summary

This document is Material Ordering Data (MOD) for fasteners per MIL-DTL-1222J, General Specification for Studs, Bolts, Screws and Nuts for Applications Where a Higher Degree of Reliability is Required (dated 08 DEC 2020). The fasteners specified are intended for general, high temperature, high strength, and corrosive environment applications requiring a high degree of reliability. The specification is designed to acquire commercial off-the-shelf fasteners with added inspections to verify reliability for applications including elevated temperatures, immersion in seawater, salt air/marine environments, high preloads, and high shock loadings.

The specific item required is a socket head cap screw with the following specifications: Type II, Grade 500 (GR500), K-monel material, 0.250-inch size, 2.250 inches long, with 20UNRC-3A thread series and class 3A fit. Per NSTM S9086-CJ-STM010 Chapter 75 Revision 5, this specification shall be used to procure all K-monel socket head capscrews. Cut or ground threads are not permitted. Level I alloy steel socket head capscrews shall be marked "A574," with "STM" marking also acceptable. No self-locking element is required, and no chemical analysis, mechanical property testing, decarburization testing, or magnetic permeability testing is required. The additional data requirements specify the fastener as a nickel-aluminum (NICUAL) cap screw compliant with MIL-DTL-1222 Type 2 and QQ-N-286 standards. The prepared code is C/127.2.

6.1 Intended use. Fasteners meeting this specification are intended for general, high temperature, high strength and corrosive environment applications where a high degree of reliability is required.

It is designed to be used to acquire commercial off-the-shelf fasteners with added inspections to verify the high degree of reliability required. Fastener types and grades have been selected to meet diverse applications which include: elevated temperatures, immersion in sea water, salt air/marine environments, high preloads and high shock loadings.
