About this file

This is an Evaluation Report prepared for Major's Metal Roofing & Custom Sheet Metal, Inc. regarding their 26-gauge 5V-Crimp metal roofing panel, with approval under Florida Building Code 8th Edition (2023) designation FL 16179.2-R5. The product consists of 24-inch wide coverage panels with five 1/2-inch high ribs, manufactured from minimum 26-gauge, 50 ksi steel available in galvanized, Galvalume, or painted finishes. The panels are designed for installation on minimum 19/32-inch thick APA-rated plywood or wood plank decking using 8d x 2-inch ring shank nails or #8 x 2-inch wood screws spaced at 6 inches on center. Installation requires a minimum roof slope of 1/2:12 or greater with underlayment meeting FBC 2023 Section 1507.4.5.1 specifications.

The evaluation report, prepared by Florida Professional Engineer Bala Sockalingam (PE #62240) and dated July 23, 2023, establishes design uplift pressure ratings of 109.3 psf at 12-inch fastener spacing and 159.3 psf at 6-inch fastener spacing, both with a safety factor of 2. Fastening utilizes #9 x 1.5-inch corrosion-resistant hex head wood screws with washers through panel ribs, with minimum 3/16-inch deck penetration. The report references compliance testing conducted per TAS 125-03 standards through Intertek Testing Services, with supporting test reports from 2006 and 2009. The product is not applicable for High Velocity Hurricane Zones, and fire classification ratings require separate documentation per ASTM E108/UL790 standards. A load span table provides uplift design loads for fastener spacing ranging from 6 to 12 inches on center, with loads varying from 159.3 psf to 109.3 psf respectively.
