SECTION 22 05 00 - Common Work Results for Plumbing
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 The Bidding Requirements, "Contract Forms," "General Conditions," "Supplemental General Conditions," "Special Conditions," "General Requirements," etc., shall apply to the work under the Mechanical Sections of the Specifications.
1.2 All references to "This Contractor," “The Contractor,” "Mechanical Contractor," etc., in these Specifications shall mean any Contractor or Subcontractor performing work under the Mechanical Sections of the Specifications.
1.3 The term "Drawings" referred to in the Specifications refers to the Drawings enumerated in the Contract Documents.
1.4 Reference to manufacturers by name, make or catalog number shall be interpreted as establishing a minimum standard of quality and shall not be construed as limiting competition.
If only one manufacturer’s product is acceptable, it will be so stated.
1.5 All quantities of each item of specified material and equipment shall be provided by one manufacturer.
1.6 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes the following:

1.7 DEFINITIONS
A. Finished Spaces: Spaces other than mechanical and electrical equipment rooms, furred spaces, pipe chases, unheated spaces immediately below roof, spaces above ceilings, unexcavated spaces, crawlspaces, and tunnels.

B. Exposed, Interior Installations: Exposed to view indoors. Examples include finished occupied spaces and mechanical equipment rooms.
C. Exposed, Exterior Installations: Exposed to view outdoors or subject to outdoor ambient temperatures and weather conditions. Examples include rooftop locations.
D. Concealed, Interior Installations: Concealed from view and protected from physical contact by building occupants. Examples include above ceilings and in chases.
E. Concealed, Exterior Installations: Concealed from view and protected from weather conditions and physical contact by building occupants but subject to outdoor ambient temperatures. Examples include installations within unheated shelters.
F. The following are industry abbreviations for rubber materials:
1. EPDM: Ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer rubber.
1.8 SHOP DRAWINGS AND RELATED SUBMITTALS
A. Submittals shall be made in accordance with Paragraph “Shop Drawings and other related
Submittals” in Section 220500 – Common Work Results for Plumbing.
B. Corrections or comments made on the submittals during the Engineer's review do not relieve the Contractor from compliance with the Drawings and Specifications. The Engineer's review of submittals is only for general conformance with design concept and general compliance with the information given in the Contract Documents. The Contractor's responsibility includes, but is not limited to, confirming and correlating all quantities and dimensions, selecting fabrication processes and techniques of construction, coordinating his work with that of all other trades, and performing his work in a safe and satisfactory manner.
C. Manufacturer's catalog data, dimensional data, and specification data shall be submitted on the following:
1. Dielectric fittings.
2. Mechanical sleeve seals.
1.9 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. All work and material on this project shall be in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations including but not limited to the following:
1. Established Federal Standards of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration under the Department of Labor.
B. The above regulations are considered a part of the specifications and shall prevail should they differ with the plans and specifications. Prior to construction the Contractor shall notify the Architect of the difference. Should the Contractor not so notify the Architect, the Contractor shall fully comply without claim for extra costs.

C. Electrical Characteristics for Plumbing Equipment: Equipment of higher electrical characteristics may be furnished provided such proposed equipment is approved in writing and connecting electrical services, circuit breakers, and conduit sizes are appropriately modified. If minimum energy ratings or efficiencies are specified, equipment shall comply with requirements.
D. Plumbing systems shall be supplied by a single manufacturer. Multiple manufactures for a single system is not acceptable.
1.10 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Deliver pipes and tubes with factory-applied end caps. Maintain end caps through shipping, storage, and handling to prevent pipe end damage and to prevent entrance of dirt, debris, and moisture.
B. Do not store materials or equipment on any floor or roof of building in such quantity that these parts of the building will be overloaded in any way. Do not move heavy equipment across any floor or roof without first submitting the details of the work to the Architect and having obtained his approval. In cases where frequent movement of men or materials over the roof is encountered, provide walking boards or other suitable protection for the roofing.
C. Provide suitable storage for, and completely protect all materials and equipment prior to installation. Storage shall be dry, clean and safe. Any materials or equipment lost through theft or mishandling shall be replaced, all without additional cost to the Owner.
1.11 COORDINATION
A. Arrange for pipe spaces, chases, slots, and openings in building structure during progress of construction, to allow for plumbing installations.
B. Coordinate installation of required supporting devices and set sleeves in poured-in-place concrete and other structural components as they are constructed.
C. Coordinate requirements for access panels and doors for plumbing items requiring access that are concealed behind finished surfaces.
D. Carefully examine all architectural, structural, electrical and any other drawings and specifications pertaining to the construction before fabricating and installing the work described and indicated under these drawings and specifications. Cooperate with all other Contractors in locating piping, ductwork, sleeves, equipment, etc., in order to avoid conflict with all other Contractor's work. No extra compensation will be allowed to cover the cost of relocating piping, ducts, etc., or equipment found encroaching on space required by others.
E. Lay out work from construction lines and levels established by the General Contractor. This Contractor shall be responsible for the proper location and placement of his work.

F. Any discrepancies occurring on the accompanying drawings and between the drawings and the specifications shall be reported to the Architect prior to any fabrication and installation so that a workable solution can be presented. Extra payment will not be allowed for the relocation of, or revision to, piping, equipment, etc., not installed in accordance with the above instructions, and which interferes with work and equipment of other trades.
1.12 EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS
A. Maintain in operating condition all active utilities, sewer, gutters and other drains, etc., encountered in the utility installation. Repair to the satisfaction of the Architect and the Owner any surfaces or subsurface improvements damaged during the course of the work, unless such improvement is shown to be abandoned or removed.
B. Any obstructing utilities encountered in the course of this work, not shown on the drawings, nor evident during inspection prior to starting the work, shall be relocated as directed by the Architect.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 DIELECTRIC FITTINGS
A. Description: Combination fitting of copper alloy and ferrous materials with threaded, solder-joint, plain, or weld-neck end connections that match piping system materials.
B. Insulating Material: Suitable for system fluid, pressure, and temperature.
C. Dielectric Unions: Factory-fabricated, union assembly, for 250-psig minimum working pressure at 180 deg F.
1. Available Manufactures: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufactures offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to the following:
a. Capitol Manufacturing Co.
b. Central Plastics Company.
c. Epco Sales, Inc.
d. Watts Industries, Inc.; Water Products Div.
e. Zurn Industries, Inc.; Wilkins Div.
D. Dielectric Couplings: Galvanized-steel coupling with inert and noncorrosive, thermoplastic lining; threaded ends; and 300-psig minimum working pressure at 225 deg F.

a. Calpico, Inc.

E. Dielectric Nipples: Electroplated steel nipple with inert and noncorrosive, thermoplastic lining;
plain, threaded, or grooved ends; and 300-psig minimum working pressure at 225 deg F.

2.2 MECHANICAL SLEEVE SEALS
A. Description: Modular sealing element unit, designed for field assembly, to fill annular space between pipe and sleeve.
1. Available Manufactures: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufactures offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to the following:
a. Advance Products & Systems, Inc.
b. Calpico, Inc.
c. Metraflex Co.
d. Pipeline Seal and Insulator, Inc.
2. Sealing Elements: EPDM interlocking links shaped to fit surface of pipe. Include type and number required for pipe material and size of pipe.
3. Pressure Plates: Plastic. Include two for each sealing element.
4. Connecting Bolts and Nuts: Stainless steel of length required to secure pressure plates to sealing elements. Include one for each sealing element.
2.3 SLEEVES
A. Steel Pipe: ASTM A 53, Type E, Grade B, Schedule 40, galvanized, plain ends.
B. Cast Iron: Cast or fabricated "wall pipe" equivalent to ductile-iron pressure pipe, with plain ends and integral waterstop, unless otherwise indicated.
2.4 ESCUTCHEONS
A. Description: Manufactured wall and ceiling escutcheons and floor plates, with an ID to closely fit around pipe, tube, and insulation of insulated piping and an OD that completely covers opening.
B. One-Piece, Deep-Pattern Type: Deep-drawn, box-shaped brass with polished chrome-plated finish.
C. One-Piece, Stamped-Steel Type: With set screw and chrome-plated finish.
D. Split-Plate, Stamped-Steel Type: With concealed hinge, set screw, and chrome-plated finish.
E. One-Piece, Floor-Plate Type: Cast-iron floor plate.
F. Split-Casting, Floor-Plate Type: Cast brass with concealed hinge and set screw.

2.5 GROUT
A. Description: ASTM C 1107, Grade B, nonshrink and nonmetallic, dry hydraulic-cement grout.
1. Characteristics: Post-hardening, volume-adjusting, nonstaining, noncorrosive, nongaseous, and recommended for interior and exterior applications.
2. Design Mix: 5000-psi, 28-day compressive strength.
3. Packaging: Premixed and factory packaged.
PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.1 SHOP DRAWINGS AND OTHER RELATED SUBMITTALS
A. The type submittal information required for each item of equipment shall be as indicated in the individual sections of the specification.
B. When a substitute item of equipment has been submitted for approval, submit layout drawings indicating the changes necessary to adapt the substituted item of equipment to the system design.
C. Submittal data shall include Specification data, such as metal gauges, finishes, optional accessories, etc., even though such equipment and materials may be detailed on the drawings or specified. In addition, the submittal data shall include performance (certification) data, wiring diagrams where applicable, accurate dimensional data and a recommended spare parts list. Outline or dimensional drawings alone are not acceptable. No roughing-in, connections, etc., shall be done until Architect reviewed equipment submittals are in the hands of the Contractors. It shall be the Contractor's responsibility to obtain drawings and to make all connections, etc., in the neatest and most workmanlike manner possible.
D. In general, normal catalog information (with the particular items underlined or otherwise denoted as being the submitted item) will be acceptable as submittal data. Installation, operating and maintenance instructions must be that information, specifically applicable to the items furnished, ordinarily supplied with the equipment to the Owner with any modifications indicated. Wiring diagrams must be correct for the application. Generalized wiring diagrams, showing alternate methods of connection, will not be acceptable unless all unrelated sections are marked out. Submittal data sheets, which indicate several different model numbers, figure numbers, optional accessories, installation arrangements, etc., shall be clearly marked to indicate the specific items of equipment to be furnished. Samples and certificates shall be furnished as requested. Submittal data must be complete for each piece of equipment;
piecemeal data will not be processed.
E. It shall be noted that the reviewing of shop drawings by the Architect applies only to general design, arrangement, type, capacity, and quality. Such review does not apply to quantities, dimensions, connection locations and the like. In all cases, the Contractor alone shall be responsible for furnishing the proper quantity of equipment and/or materials required, that all equipment fits the available space in a satisfactory manner, all equipment characteristics are appropriate and that all connections are suitably located.
F. Before the project is accepted, all submittal data (shop drawings, etc.) must be complete and reviewed.

3.2 SUBSTITUTION OF MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
A. When the Contractor requests approval of substitute materials and/or equipment, except when under formal alternate proposal, it shall be understood and agreed that such substitution, if approved, will be made without cost to the Owner, regardless of changes in connections, spacing, electrical service, etc. In all cases where substitutions affect other trades the Contractor offering such substitutions shall reimburse all affected Contractors for all necessary changes in their work.
3.3 OPERATION MANUAL
A. Furnish owner with three (3) bound sets of operation manuals at completion of project. Each set is to be bound separately in a loose leaf binder. Manuals shall include Contractor’s Name and telephone numbers that can be called for service calls. Also, include the following in the manuals for transmittal to the Owner:
1. All project stamped acceptable shop drawings and copies of all certificates.
2. Lubrication schedules and procedures
3. Spare parts list, indicate all items that should be maintained at the site by owner.
4. Maintenance and trouble-shooting suggestions for equipment.
5. Non-Lien Affidavits
6. Wiring Diagrams
7. Certification of owner instruction of system and equipment
8. Record drawings
B. The operating instructions shall integrate each piece of equipment in any one system into a numbered step-by-step sequence of operation, including valves, controls, etc.
C. The parts list shall consist of a complete list of replacement items with all component parts numbered for each piece of mechanical or electrical equipment and shall include directions for ordering said replacement items.
D. Maintenance procedure shall outline required routine maintenance for all equipment and systems and instructions for repair of the equipment.
3.4 RECORD DRAWINGS
A. This Contractor shall submit to the Owner one (1) reproducible sepia copy, one (1) print and a set of files in ACAD (LATEST VERSION) of Record Drawings. Drawings shall be identified with the Contractor’s name, the date, and title “RECORD DRAWINGS” on the paper copies.
B. These drawings shall show the size, location and routing of all new, existing and abandoned piping, wiring and equipment relative to this Division.
C. These drawings shall be prepared by a CAD operator in a professional manner, to scale, and dimensioned.
D. During construction of the project, electronic files of progress drawings may be requested by the Owner of this Contractor or his subcontractor.

3.5 SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION
A. Substantial completion of the work is when the construction is complete in accordance with the contract documents. The exterior and interior construction is suitable for the normal usage intended. The air conditioning, heating, ventilating, electrical power, electrical lighting, plumbing and sprinkler systems have been tested and are reliably functioning without continuing adjustment or attention. The exterior site work including walking, driving and parking surfaces are such that degradation will not occur to any interior surfaces. If any further work need be accomplished for total completion of the project, that work will absolutely not interfere with the normal intended usage.
3.6 PERMITS AND APPROVALS
A. All permits and certificates of approval for the complete system shall be obtained by the respective Contractors from the authorities governing such work. The cost of all permits, tap-in-fees and approvals shall be borne by the Contractor furnishing the work, except as noted in the General Requirements. All work shall be approved by the Architect before final payment will be made.
3.7 STRUCTURAL RESPONSIBILITY
A. Properly shore, brace, support, etc., any construction to guard against cracking, settling, collapsing, displacing or weakening. No structural member shall be cut without the written consent of the Architect.
B. Any damage occurring to the structure, due to failure to exercise proper precautions or due to action of the elements, shall be promptly and properly made good to the satisfaction of the Owner or Architect, without cost.
3.8 PIPING SYSTEMS - COMMON REQUIREMENTS
A. Install piping according to the following requirements and Division 22 Plumbing Sections specifying piping systems.
B. Drawing plans, schematics, and diagrams indicate general location and arrangement of piping systems. Indicated locations and arrangements were used to size pipe and calculate friction loss, expansion, pump sizing, and other design considerations. Install piping as indicated unless deviations to layout are approved on Coordination Drawings.
C. The drawings accompanying these specifications are diagrammatic and indicate the general design and arrangement of the proposed work. Do not scale drawings for the exact location of equipment and work. The exact routing and/or location of piping, sleeves, equipment, etc., unless specifically dimensioned on the drawings, shall be determined to suit field conditions encountered, and to avoid interferences with other Contractors' work.
D. Install piping in concealed locations, unless otherwise indicated and except in equipment rooms and service areas.
E. Install piping indicated to be exposed and piping in equipment rooms and service areas at right angles or parallel to building walls. Diagonal runs are prohibited unless specifically indicated otherwise.

F. Install piping above accessible ceilings to allow sufficient space for ceiling panel removal.
G. Install piping to permit valve servicing.
H. Install piping at indicated slopes.
I. Install piping free of sags and bends.
J. Install fittings for changes in direction and branch connections.
K. Install piping to allow application of insulation.
L. Select system components with pressure rating equal to or greater than system operating pressure.
M. Install escutcheons for penetrations of walls, ceilings, and floors according to the following:
1. New Piping:
a. Piping with Fitting or Sleeve Protruding from Wall: One-piece, deep-pattern type.
b. Piping at Wall, Ceiling and Floor Penetrations: One-piece, stamped-steel type.
c. Piping at Floor Penetrations in Equipment Rooms: One-piece, floor-plate type.
2. Existing Piping: Use the following:
a. Bare Piping at Wall, Ceiling and Floor Penetrations: Split-plate, stamped-steel type with concealed hinge and set screw.
b. Bare Piping at Floor Penetrations in Equipment Rooms: Split-casting, floor-plate type.
N. Install sleeves for pipes passing through concrete and masonry walls, gypsum-board partitions, and concrete floor and roof slabs.
1. Wall Penetrations: Cut sleeves to length for ½” minimum extension from both surfaces.
2. Floor Penetrations: Extend sleeves 1” minimum above finished floor level. Extend cast-iron sleeve fittings below floor slab as required to secure clamping ring.
O. Install sleeves in new walls and slabs as new walls and slabs are constructed.
P. Install sleeves that are large enough to provide 1/4-inch annular clear space between sleeve and pipe or pipe insulation. Use the following sleeve materials:
1. Steel Pipe Sleeves: For all pipes sizes.
2. Stack Sleeve Fittings: For pipes penetrating floors with membrane waterproofing.
Secure flashing between clamping flanges. Install section of cast-iron soil pipe to extend sleeve to 1” above finished floor level.
a. Seal space outside of sleeve fittings with grout.

Q. Aboveground, Exterior-Wall Pipe Penetrations: Seal penetrations using sleeves and mechanical sleeve seals. Select sleeve size to allow for 1-inch annular clear space between pipe and sleeve for installing mechanical sleeve seals.
1. Mechanical Sleeve Seal Installation: Select type and number of sealing elements required for pipe material and size. Position pipe in center of sleeve. Assemble mechanical sleeve seals and install in annular space between pipe and sleeve.
Tighten bolts against pressure plates that cause sealing elements to expand and make watertight seal.
R. Fire-Barrier Penetrations: Maintain indicated fire rating of walls, partitions, ceilings, and floors at pipe penetrations. Seal pipe penetrations with firestop materials. Verify final equipment locations for roughing-in.
S. Refer to equipment specifications in other Sections of these Specifications for roughing-in requirements.
3.9 PIPING JOINT CONSTRUCTION
A. Join pipe and fittings according to the following requirements and Division 22 Plumbing
Sections specifying piping systems.
B. Ream ends of pipes and tubes and remove burrs. Bevel plain ends of steel pipe.
C. Remove scale, slag, dirt, and debris from inside and outside of pipe and fittings before assembly.
D. Soldered Joints: Apply ASTM B 813, water-flushable flux, unless otherwise indicated, to tube end. Construct joints according to ASTM B 828 or CDA's "Copper Tube Handbook," using lead-free solder alloy complying with ASTM B 32.
E. Brazed Joints: Construct joints according to AWS's "Brazing Handbook," "Pipe and Tube" Chapter, using copper-phosphorus brazing filler metal complying with AWS A5.8.
F. Threaded Joints: Thread pipe with tapered pipe threads according to ASME B1.20.1. Cut threads full and clean using sharp dies. Ream threaded pipe ends to remove burrs and restore full ID. Join pipe fittings and valves as follows:
1. Apply appropriate tape or thread compound to external pipe threads unless dry seal threading is specified.
2. Damaged Threads: Do not use pipe or pipe fittings with threads that are corroded or damaged. Do not use pipe sections that have cracked or open welds.
3.10 PIPING CONNECTIONS
A. Make connections according to the following, unless otherwise indicated:
1. Install unions, in piping 2” and smaller, at final connection to each piece of equipment.
2. Dry Piping Systems: Install dielectric unions and flanges to connect piping materials of dissimilar metals.
3. Wet Piping Systems: Install dielectric coupling and nipple fittings to connect piping materials of dissimilar metals.

B. Make all water and drainage connections, etc., to equipment furnished by others under this Contract whenever such equipment is shown on any of the drawings or mentioned in any section of the specifications, unless otherwise specifically specified hereinafter.
3.11 EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION - COMMON REQUIREMENTS
A. Install equipment to allow maximum possible headroom unless specific mounting heights are not indicated.
B. Install equipment level and plumb, parallel and perpendicular to other building systems and components in exposed interior spaces, unless otherwise indicated.
C. Install plumbing equipment to facilitate service, maintenance, and repair or replacement of components. Connect equipment for ease of disconnecting, with minimum interference to other installations. Extend grease fittings to accessible locations.
D. Install equipment to allow right of way for piping installed at required slope.
E. Furnish and install all special wrenches, valve handles, keys, or other special tools as necessary to dismantle or service any piece of equipment installed.
3.12 GUARANTEES AND WARRANTIES
A. Guarantee all equipment, apparatus, materials, and workmanship and replace all parts, which have been proven defective, within one year from final acceptance of the work by the Architect. Items of equipment which have longer guarantees shall have warranties and guarantees in effect at the time of final acceptance of the work by the Architect. Furnish all such warranties and guarantees at the time of final acceptance of the work.
B. Disclaimers and Limitations: Manufacturer’s disclaimers and limitations on product warranties do not relieve the Contractor of the warranty on the Work that incorporates the products.
Manufacturer’s disclaimers and limitations on product warranties do not relieve suppliers, manufacturers and subcontractors required to countersign special warranties with the Contractor.
C. Related Damages and Losses: When correcting failed or damaged warranted construction, remove and replace construction that has been damaged as a result of such failure or must be removed and replaced to provide access for correction of warranted construction.
3.13 PAINTING
A. Damage and Touchup: Repair marred and damaged factory-painted finishes with materials and procedures to match original factory finish.

PART 1 – GENERAL
1.1 Reference to manufacturers by name, make or catalog number shall be interpreted as establishing a minimum standard of quality and shall not be construed as limiting competition.
If only one manufacturer’s product is acceptable, it will be so stated.
1.2 All quantities of each item of specified material and equipment shall be provided by one manufacturer.

B. Valve Schedules: For each piping system, on 8-1/2-by-11-inch bond paper. Tabulate valve number, piping system, system abbreviation (as shown on valve tag), location of valve (room or space), normal-operating position (open, closed, or modulating), and variations for identification. Mark valves for emergency shutoff and similar special uses.

1.1 This section specifies the material, installation, and performance requirements for the interior domestic water piping to an including connection to the existing water distribution system.

D. Special Engineered products shall be certified by NSF International as complying with NSF 14.

1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Interruption of Existing Domestic Water Service: Do not interrupt domestic water service to facilities occupied by Owner or others unless permitted under the following conditions and then only after arranging to provide temporary domestic water service according to requirements indicated:
1. Notify Owner no fewer than four days in advance of proposed interruption of domestic water service.
2. Do not proceed with interruption of domestic water service without Owner's written permission.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 Comply with requirements in "Piping Schedule" Article for applications of pipe, tube, fitting materials, and joining methods for specific services, service locations, and pipe sizes.
2.2 COPPER TUBE AND FITTINGS
A. Soft Copper Tube: ASTM B 88, Type K, water tube, annealed temper.
1. Copper Pressure Fittings: ASME B16.22, wrought-copper, solder-joint fittings.
2. Bronze Flanges: ASME B16.24, Class 220, with solder-joint ends. Furnish Class 300 flanges if required to match piping.
3. Copper Unions: MSS SP-123, cast-copper-alloy, hexagonal-stock body, with ball-and-socket, metal-to-metal seating surfaces, and solder-joint or threaded ends.
B. Hard Copper Tube: ASTM B 88, Type L, water tube, drawn temper.
1. Cast-Copper Solder-Joint Fittings: ASME B16.18, pressure fittings.
2. Wrought-Copper Solder-Joint Fittings: ASME B16.22, wrought-copper pressure fittings.
3. Copper Unions: MSS SP-123, cast-copper-alloy, hexagonal-stock body, with ball-and-socket, metal-to-metal seating surfaces, and solder-joint or threaded ends.

C. WARRANTY
1. Manufacturer shall warrant pipe and fittings for 10 years to be free of defects in materials or manufacturing.
2. Warranty shall cover labor and material costs of repairing and/or replacing defective materials and repairing any incidental damage caused by failure of the piping system do to defects in materials or manufacturing.
3. Warranty shall be in effect only upon submission by the contractor to the manufacturer valid pressure/leak test documentation indicating that the system was tested and passed the manufacturer’s pressure/leak test.
D. UV PROTECTION
1. Where indicated on the drawings that the pipe will be exposed to direct UV light for more than 30 days, it shall be provided with a Factory applied, UV-resistant coating or alternative UV protection.
2.3 VALVES
A. Bronze and cast-iron, general-duty valves are specified in Division 22 Section “General-Duty
Valves for Plumbing Piping”.
2.4 DIELECTRIC FITTINGS
A. Dielectric fittings are specified in Division 22 Section 220500 – Common Work Results for
Plumbing.
2.5 MECHANICAL SLEEVE SEALS
A. Mechanical sleeve seals are specified in Division 22 Section 220500 – Common Work Results for Plumbing.
2.6 SLEEVES
A. Sleeves are specified in Division 22 Section 220500 – Common Work Results for Plumbing.
2.7 ESCUTCHEONS
A. Escutcheons are specified in Division 22 Section 220500 – Common Work Results for
Plumbing.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 The Contractor shall be responsible for the safe storage of materials furnished by, or to, him and accepted by him and intended for the work, until it has been incorporated in the complete project. Material shall be kept free from dirt and foreign matter at all times.

3.2 All materials furnished by the Contractor shall be delivered and distributed at the site by the Contractor. Pipe, fittings, valves, and accessories shall be loaded and unloaded by lifting with hoists or skids, so as to avoid shock or damage. Under no circumstances shall material be dropped. Pipe handled on skids shall not be skidded or rolled against pipe already stored.
3.3 Materials and equipment shall be installed in strict accordance with material and equipment manufacturer's installation instructions, requirements of the Plumbing Code, and these Speci-fications.
3.4 PIPING INSTALLATION
A. Basic piping installation requirements are specified in Division 22 Section “Common Work
Results for Plumbing."
B. Install all piping in straight lines and uniform grades between points where changes in direction are required. All piping shall be graded to allow system drainage. All connections to risers and fixtures shall be from the top of mains unless otherwise specifically indicated.
Piping shall be pitched up toward risers and fixtures for proper air relief.
C. Install dielectric unions screwed or soldered, as required at all connections of all dissimilar metals, at points above the floor slab where piping enters buildings, and at hot, cold, and hot water return piping connections to the hot water heaters and storage tanks.
D. Install unions at the connections at each piece of equipment and at locations indicated.
E. Furnish and install the discharge piping from the relief valves and overflow drains to the nearest floor drain or indicated point of discharge. The discharge piping shall be full size of the valve and drain outlet or as indicated.
F. Install sleeve with water stop and mechanical sleeve seal at each service pipe penetration through foundation wall. Select number of interlocking rubber links required to make installation watertight. Wall penetration systems are specified in Division 22 Section “Common Work Results for Plumbing”.
3.5 JOINT CONSTRUCTION
A. Basic piping joint construction requirements are specified in Division 22 Section “Common
Work Results for Plumbing”.
B. Ream ends of pipes and tubes and remove burrs. Bevel plain ends of steel pipe.
C. Remove scale, slag, dirt, and debris from inside and outside of pipes, tubes, and fittings before assembly.
D. Threaded Joints: Thread pipe with tapered pipe threads according to ASME B1.20.1. Cut threads full and clean using sharp dies. Ream threaded pipe ends to remove burrs and restore full ID. Join pipe fittings and valves as follows:
1. Apply appropriate tape or thread compound to external pipe threads.

2. Damaged Threads: Do not use pipe or pipe fittings with threads that are corroded or damaged.
E. Brazed Joints: Join copper tube and fittings according to CDA's "Copper Tube Handbook," "Brazed Joints" Chapter.
F. Soldered Joints: Apply ASTM B 813, water-flushable flux to end of tube. Join copper tube and fittings with 95-5 tin-antimony according to ASTM B 828 or CDA's "Copper Tube Handbook."
G. Pressure-Sealed Joints: Join copper tube and pressure-seal fittings with tools recommended by fitting manufacturer.
H. Extruded-Tee Connections: Form tee in copper tube according to ASTM F 2014. Use tool designed for copper tube; drill pilot hole, form collar for outlet, dimple tube to form seating stop, and braze branch tube into collar.
I. Copper-Tubing Grooved Joints: Roll groove end of tube. Assemble coupling with housing, gasket, lubricant, and bolts. Join copper tube and grooved-end fittings according to AWWA C606 for roll-grooved joints.
J. Ductile-Iron-Piping Grooved Joints: Cut groove end of pipe. Assemble coupling with housing, gasket, lubricant, and bolts. Join ductile-iron pipe and grooved-end fittings according to AWWA C606 for ductile-iron-pipe, cut-grooved joints.
K. Dissimilar-Material Piping Joints: Make joints using adapters compatible with materials of both piping systems.
L. Install fittings and joints using socket-fusion, elecrofusion, or butt-fusion as applicable for the fitting type. All fusion-well joints shall be made in accordance with the pipe and fitting manufacturer’s specifications and product standards.
M. Fusion-weld tooling, welding machines, and electrofusion devices shall be as specified by the pipe and fittings manufacturer.
N. Prior to joining, the pipe and fittings shall be prepared in accordance with F 2389 and the manufacturer’s specifications.
O. Joint preparation, setting and alignment, fusion process, cooling times and working pressure shall be in accordance with the pipe and fitting manufacturer’s specifications.
3.6 DIELECTRIC FITTING INSTALLATION
A. Install dielectric fittings in piping at connections of dissimilar metal piping and tubing.
B. Dielectric Fittings for 2” and Smaller: Use dielectric unions.
