Answers to RFI’s
1. This note calls out installing Chemical Feeders, but we aren’t finding a lot of information in the drawings or plumbing schedule about this equipment. What is the Basis of design for Shock Chlorination and Chemical Feeders to be used?
The chemical feeders called out for B1 areas are for Hyper-Chlorination purposes only.
Each floor level will have a chemical feeder near the main riser branch to be manually enabled in the event Legionella remediation is required at the specific floor level. The hyper-chlorination will be limited at the affected floor level as opposed to the entire building. The chemical feed pump shall be capable of injecting sodium hypochlorite in the floor level branch line (Est Domestic water system flow rate 12-16gpm, pressure 60- 80psig) at 2mg/L to 5mg/L. Flow paced chemical feed pump is preferred. Connection to BAS is not required, this will be a manually operated system only.
The chemical feeder in B3 is an existing AEGIS I controller with LMI feeder pump.
Upgrade the controller to AEGIS II to provide BACnet connection to BAS.
2. P-502 Plumbing Detail 1 Note F6 says “Provide Insulation Pads” for the Mixing valve, however Watts (Basis of Design) does not know of any type of insulation pad that is designed to work with this valve nor do they feel it is needed. Will you please clarify the design intent for insulation pad?
The insulation pad is simply a removable insulation pad/blanket for valves, devices, etc.
requiring routine maintenance. We can omit this requirement, since it’s hard to find one for a small size thermo-mixing valve.
3. What is the Basis of Design for the Backflow Preventer?
¾” to 2” pipe: Zurn Model 975XL
2.5” or greater pipe: Zurn Model 350 with butterfly valves.
