To: Mr. Don Maahs W.R. Bradley LLC 5931 Ford Court Brighton, MI 48116

Reference: V.A. Battle Creek Feedwater Deaerator Shop Drawings Response

Dear Don, Attached you will find the revised deaerator drawing that incorporates the engineer’s comments per Transmittal No. 23-50-11- 5 dated 4-26-2011. We received these on 6-10-2011.

We are responding per line number as follows:

1. We have installed two safety relief valves on the deaerator. The capacity was calculated on the amount of steam required to deaerate on 100% makeup as follows:

80,000 lbs/hr Max Llow of Deaerator Max DA Makeup Flow: 160 GPM

Inlet Water Temperature: 55°F Deaerator Water Temperature: 230°F

160 GPM x ΔT 230-55 (175 °F)

80 x 175°F = $14,000

Safety Valve Sizing based on 15 psig set point as request split between two valves, each valve having a capacity of 9795 lbs/hr for a total capacity of 19,590 lbs/hr Valve Model: 4” P 6” Kunkle 6252 set@ 15 psig We have shown these on the drawing.

2. No Sparge Tube is required.

3. Deaerator pressure is 7 psig and performance has been added to the drawing.

4. Recirculation connection size 2” has been added to the left side head and schedule.

5. The height of the deaerator has not changed from the first submission. It is the contractors responsibility to coordinate install or advise.

6. Storage tank is 50 psig @ 400°F.

7. Pegging steam flow calculated @ 14,000 lbs/hr @ 7 psig. 100% makeup SS °F.

8. The controls contractor furnishes the level controls. TFE is furnishing the level switches only.

9. Tulsa Check Valve meets spec with stainless internals.

10. Thermometers will be resubmitted with Red Reading. Mercury is not available and is illegal to ship.

Regards, Bob James President

CASE & SOCKET DIMENSIONS FOR VARI-ANGLE THERMOMETERS

Separable sockets are used to provide pressure tight connections where required. They also offer the advantage of allowing a thermometer to be removed from a system without disturbance. The thermometer is inserted and tightened to the separable socket by means of a threaded swivel nut coupling. Quick response to temperaure change is assured since the stem and socket are precision tapered, providing a metal to metal contact at the sensitive bulb section. To withstand severe corrosive conditions, sockets machined of special materials are available. Pipe threads on separable sockets can be located at different points on the stem. Thread location determines the insertion length and the length available for insulation.

Other Lengths, Materials and NPT Sizes Available - Consult Factory.

SIX INCH INDUSTRIAL THERMOMETERS

Navy Class Thermometers

The Weiss 6" Navy Class Thermometer is compactly designed, ruggedly constructed and has excellent readability. The blue-reading liquid-in-glass tube maintains accuracy despite vibrations and shock.

This economical thermometer is built for diesel engines, compressors, brine lines and all small piping networks. It is especially adaptable to equipment operating under continuous vibrating conditions.

CASE: Attractive modern design; V-shaped gray Valox case. Wide angle construction allows full scale width for easy reading.

GLASS FRONT: Protective glass cover is retained within the outer edges of the case. Spring pressure created by the V-scale secures the glass against the case and prevents it from rattling. A formed cover plate, easily removable, completes the assembly.

TUBE & SCALE: "Blue-Reading" liquid tube is standard. V-shaped scale is designed for maximum readability with extra large black numbers. Our cross-locked, scale holding device positively prevents loosening or shifting of scale and does away with holes and screws that interfere with scale markings.

STEM ASSEMBLY: Standard fittings of all brass construction which insures proper response to temperature changes. Standard dual threaded socket for 1/2" and 3/4" NPT. Meets all current military specifications (Army, Navy, Air Force).

Test kits for boiler waters and applications requiring trace levels of D.O. (ppb range) employ the Rhodazine D methodology. Developed by CHEMetrics, Inc., and approved by ASTM as the reference method for ppb D.O. determination, the Rhodazine D compound in reduced form reacts with dissolved oxygen to form a bright pink reaction product. The method is not subject to salinity or dissolved gas interferences. Oxidizing agents, including benzoquinone, can cause high results.

Reducing agents such as hydrazine and sulfite do not interfere. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) or ppb (µg/L) O2.

Low-range dissolved oxygen test kits include a special sampling tube (diagram) for use with boiler feedwater.

This device allows the user to break the tip of the ampoule in a flowing sample stream in order to preclude error from contamination by atmospheric oxygen.

Oxygen (dissolved)

Methods The level of dissolved oxygen in natural waters is often a direct indication of quality, since aquatic plants pro-duce oxygen, while microorganisms generally consume it as they feed on pollutants. At low temperatures the solubility of oxygen is increased; during summer, satura-tion levels can be as low as 4 ppm. Dissolved oxygen (D.O.) is essential for the support of fish and other aquatic life and aids in the natural decomposition of organic matter. Waste treatment plants that employ aerobic digestion must maintain a level of at least 2 ppm dissolved oxygen.

At elevated temperatures, oxygen is highly corrosive to metals, causing pitting in ferrous systems such as high-pressure boilers and deep well oil recovery equip-ment. To prevent costly corrosion damage, the liquids in contact with the metal surfaces must be treated, usually by a combination of physical and chemical means.

Deaeration can reduce the dissolved oxygen concentra-tion of boiler feedwater from several ppm to a few ppb. Chemical reducing agents such as hydrazine, DEHA, or sodium sulfite, may be used instead of or in conjunction with deaeration.

Test kits for environmental and drinking water applica-tions (ppm range) employ the indigo carmine method.

The reduced form of indigo carmine reacts with D.O. to form a blue product. The indigo carmine methodology is not subject to interferences from temperature, salini-ty, or dissolved gases such as sulfide, which plague users of D.O. meters. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) O2.
