About this file

This solicitation is seeking offers to construct and install a base building generator and enclosure at the Submillimeter Array Base Facility located in Hilo, Hawaii for the Smithsonian Institution. The scope of work includes site work for construction of an apron and structural slab, installation of a CAT9 generator and ASCO Avtron 4500 load bank, and option for construction of a storage building and fencing. Critical elements are electrical work associated with the generator and load bank installation, civil site work, structural concrete slab, and commissioning coordination. The period of performance for the base contract is 182 calendar days from notice to proceed, with an additional 90 days if the storage building and fencing option is exercised. Offerors are requested to immediately notify Smithsonian if the target dates and proposed work packages described would adversely affect their critical path schedule. This request for proposal provides information for offerors to prepare and submit technical and cost proposals for consideration, but does not obligate Smithsonian to procure services or reimburse any costs.

SUBJECT: 180217 – SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE SUBMILLIMETER ARRAY – GENERATOR SET INSTALLATION NOTES &

CONSIDERATIONS

GENERAL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS:

This generator set installation will require the following items to be completed prior to startup/testing date:

1. Generator set is recommended to be bolted down. Anchoring detail is site specific and is not within the scope of Hawthorne Pacific Corp.

2. Generator set must be properly grounded (chassis AND electrical system) per NEC requirements.

3. The generator set startup and testing will require an initial fill of 660 gallons and top off after field testing of an estimate of 52 Gallons of #2 ULSD fuel (both on and off- road fuels are acceptable).

4. For indoor installations, exhaust piping must not apply any torque/weight to the generator set. Any rigid or liquidtite conduit is not allowed to be connected directly to the generator set. There must be at least 6" of flex conduit when connected to the generator.

5. Engine Crankcase breather hose must be routed into the radiator shroud with a slight decline and does not allow the hose to have any low points, in order to prevent any collection of oil inside of the hose.

6. Control and Shore Power Wiring must be stranded and completed per the schematic on the following page.

The schematic is typical for a basic generator set installation.

7. Clean work area. The generator set must have sufficient clearance for the Hawthorne technicians to safely perform startup/testing. Also:

a) Prevent trash/debris from falling onto/into the generator set (e.g., Exhaust insulation hardware can fall into the radiator shroud, which can potentially puncture and destroy the radiator).

8. On-site parking must be provided for at least two service vehicles during the entire duration of the start up and testing. Any parking related fees or delay costs are not included.

9. Safety and other site required orientations must be coordinated prior to the startup and testing.

10. Access to 120VAC power outlets must be provided during the startup and testing.

11. Work in the immediate area of the generator set and ATS(s) performed by others that is scheduled during the startup and testing must be coordinated with the Project Manager prior to arrival of the technicians.

WELDING:

Welding on the generator set or its ancillary and auxiliary components is not permitted unless under the advice of the designated Hawthorne Power Systems Project Manager for this project.

General Information

GENERATOR INFORMATION (DM7809)

Coastal Insulation Protection - System 4

1.Motor Starting Motor starting curves are obtained in accordance with IEC60034, and are displayed at 0.6 power factor.

2.Voltage Dip Prediction of the generator synchronous voltage dip can be made by consulting the plot for the voltage dip value that corresponds to the desired motor starting kVA value.

3.Definitions A)Generator Keys Frame: abbreviation of generator frame size Freq: frequency in hertz.

PP/SB: prime/standby duty respectively Volts: line - line terminal voltage kW: rating in electrical kilo watts Model: engine sales model

B)Generator Temperature Rise The indicated temperature rises are the IEC/NEMA limits for standby or prime power applications. The quoted rise figures are maximum limits only and are not necessarily indicative of the actual temperature rise of a given machine winding.

C)Centre of Gravity The specified centre of gravity is for the generator only. For single bearing, and two bearing close coupled generators, the center of gravi ty is measured from the generator/engine flywheel-housing interface an d from the centreline of the rotor shaft.

For two bearing, standalone generators, the center of gravity is measu red from the end of the rotor shaft and from the centerline of the rot or shaft.

D)Generator Current Decrement Curves The generator current decrement curve indicates the generator armature current arising from a symmetrical three-phase fault at the generator terminals. Generators equipped with AREP or PMG excitation systems wi ll sustain 300% of rated armature current for 10 seconds.

E)Generator Efficiency Curves The efficiency curve is displayed for the generator only under the giv en conditions of rating, voltage, frequency and power factor. This is not the overall generating set efficiency curve.
