More specifically, we have extensive experience in providing court certified interpreters to clients for legal and court appointments. In the State of Washington, we provide court certified in-person and scheduled telephone interpreting services for administrative law hearings held by the Washington State Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH). The OAH has nearly sixty (60) Legal Assistants covering four (4) offices that schedule interpreters and manage those appointments daily on our interpreter platform. 5. The State needs to ensure this Contract provides continued access to qualified interpreters.
Bidder should be able to ensure interpreters’ ongoing availability for all language/regions bid in Exhibit C.
In the Written Response column, please briefly summarize the following:
1) your recruiting, vetting and retention processes for interpreters; and
2) your annual performance evalution and training requirements for the interpreters
100 points 1) Our vetting process is rigorous and focuses on four (4) main areas.
1. Language Proficiency
2. Certifications / Credentials
3. Experience
4. Background check
We begin by having the interpreter complete a language proficiency examination that tests their verbal interpretation and sight translation skillset. It tests both their ability from English into the target language and vice versa. The interpreter must demonstrate command of their language pair in both directions. If the interpreter has indicated they have areas of specialization, such as health care, medical, social services, etc., their test will be customized to include terminology specific to their area of specialization. Our proficiency exam encompasses elements of the Interpreter Code of Conduct to ensure they are well versed in ethics of professional interpretation.
We carefully review the interpreter’s certifications and credentials specific to interpretation. We gather all certifications, academic degrees and other documentation that supports the interpreter’s credentials and we verify the information by contacting the agencies, academic institutions, and training organizations from which they received those credentials, to ensure validity and authenticity. Additionally, we request that the interpreter provide us with at least three (3) client references that we may contact.
We scrutinize the interpreter’s resume and pose carefully crafted questions when we interview them to ensure we clearly understand the interpreter’s experience and background as a professional interpreter. They must demonstrate to us that they have proper knowledge of professional interpretation protocol and process.

If the interpreter passes the above mentioned three (3) main parts to our vetting process, we will conduct a background check of the interpreter. The background checks may include identification verification, education verification, employment verification, criminal history, national sex offender list, and global terrorist watch. We can customize the background check to the needs of the client to ensure it is as comprehensive, as necessary. If the interpreter passes the background, the last step in our vetting process, they will be approved to join our interpreter platform.
In our view, we have an unmatched record when it comes to retention of interpreters because part of our Mission Statement is to ensure that all interpreters have an exceptional experience working with us. This means that we ensure clear, comprehensive, and prompt communication with our interpreters regarding appointment details and addressing any questions or concerns they may have. It means ensuring that payment is made to them every week without delay. It means ensuring that their experience working with us is effortless and a pleasure on each and every interaction. It means being transparent and honest with our interpreters. It means offering interpreter references to any interpreter that requests one, so that they may speak to our interpreters directly to learn firsthand their experience in working for us. We invite and encourage you to contact any one of the interpreters that work for us and they will attest to this and explain in detail why they have remained committed to working with us year after year. We do not sell interpreters on gimmicks, but rather immediately seek to build trust with them by being transparent and forthcoming. We never make promises to them that we cannot keep. We focus on working with as small a group of interpreters as possible in each language for a particular client, which gives those interpreters the opportunity to receive the largest volume of work and become well acquainted with the nuances of the client. The consistency and higher volume of work coupled with the professionalism and trust that we foster with each interpreter makes for an ideal equation that equals high retention and commitment to our company.
We pay our interpreters on a weekly basis without fail and we have a nearly perfect record when it comes to interpreter invoicing. We realize that being paid on time and without error is a priority for all interpreters
