Elevator Replacement US Embassy Ljubljana
Solicitation Number 19GE5020R0061
Questions and Answers
Q1: Thresholds and flooring: Who is responsible to replace the elevator thresholds and vinyl and/or carpet flooring around the elevator entrances at all floors?
A1: SOW: 1.2 Related work to be performed B - #7 & #8
The Contractor is responsible for restoring the flooring/thresholds utilizing its own labor force or flooring subcontractor. In the case of not being able to exactly match existing flooring, Contractor will coordinate with the COR at Post for the authorized in writing best solution.
Q2: Up/down side panel: There is an up/down signal panel on the right side of the elevator doors at each elevator landing. May this up/down panel be incorporated within the top signal panel? If yes, how shall the contractor cover the unused holes/junction boxes?
A2: SOW: 1.2 Related work to be performed B - #7 & #8
SOW: 2.13 Signals - #2. Hall/Arrival Lantern: Chimes and lights signaling the car is arriving and displaying the direction the car is traveling in. If the new Hall Lantern fixture is surface mounted and can utilize existing back-box, OBO EM has no objection to reinstalling the Hall Lantern in its current location. If the new Hall Lantern is incorporated into the new Position Indicator above each landing entrance the contractor is responsible to repair/restore the wall where the existing Hall Lantern cutout is located.
In the case of not being able to exactly match existing wall finish, Contractor will coordinate with the COR at Post for the authorized in writing best solution. I prefer not to use “Uh-Oh” cover plates, especially in such an historic building.
Q3: Elevator “fire fighter rating”: Does the elevator need to comply with the 60 min fire rating listed under EU 8172 standard? Shall the elevator landings be upgraded to comply with the fire rating under EU 8172 standard?
A3: SOW: 1.4 A-D Quality Assurance (E, I, K)
SOW: 2.8 Hoistway Entrances, Doors B. - #2 Minimum 1.5 Hours (90 Minutes) OBOs vertical design standard requires the minimum certified fire rating to be 90 minutes. The height of the building does not require full compliance with EN81-73 but OBO request the hoistway entrance doors comply, requiring the 2 hour (120 minute) fire rating for the entrance doors and frames displaying a label on each stating as such. The short answer is we prefer the higher fire rated hoistway doors @ 120 minutes.
Q4: What are the dimensions of the elevator platform?
A4: The elevator car, measuring from the pit, is 160cm x 240cm.
Q4: Can the elevator be stored temporarily at the Embassy’s warehouse?
A4: No, the warehouse is very small and cannot fit anything further. There is space for a 40-foot container in the warehouse parking lot (at cost). The property owner can be contacted at tone.gabrovsek@gmail.com for further information. The warehouse is not near the Embassy Chancery.
