Questions & Answers

1. Is there a geotechnical or soils report?

No

2. Will data from ground water monitoring wells be provided?

Yes

3. Will substitutions be permitted for a fiberglass lift station wet well?

No

4. Is there tracer wire on the water mains?

There are drinking water mains and water mains for fire suppression. There may be tracer wire on some of the existing water mains. The best available as-built/record drawing information for existing utilities has been shown on the contract drawings. The Contractor will need to coordinate with the Tribe (owner of the water system) for more specific requests to locate the existing water mains during construction.

5. What underground utilities are in the area?

In addition to the existing water mains, there are natural gas pipelines owned by PG&E, phone lines and power lines. All but one residential home has propane gas. Propane gas lines run directly from the propane tanks to the gas line entrance at each home. Again, existing utilities are identified on the drawings based on available information. There is a new power line installed in 1” conduit in the alley near station 7+00 on Line B. It is buried approximately 18” to 24” deep.

6. Can the dirt road be used to access the lift station project area?

Yes, but only during construction of the lift station. It must be noted that this road is actively used by the Tribe for agricultural purposes. Also, there is a day care nearby and traffic needs to be minimized in this area.

7. Do excavations need to be covered at the end of the day?

Yes, under no circumstances shall excavations remain open when work is not in progress or unattended. Excavations shall be backfilled at the end of the day or proper trench plates must installed to the satisfaction of the COR. Safety is a major concern and the Contractor needs to be aware that the work takes place in an active residential area with a community day care.

8. How are the individual pump/sump (E1 units) powered?

Each unit will be connected to power at the houses electrical panel.

9. In reference to Section 02010, 3.7, who supplies the surveying?

The contractor is responsible for supplying the surveying.

10. Regarding dewatering, is there an existing storm drain system that is close to the pump station site that would drain to the existing retention basin? If not, will we have to hard pipe? What route would be acceptable?

There is not a location nearby that can receive water. An extensive header pipe system will be required to get to the discharge point. There is a discharge point about 800 to 1,000 feet away from the lift station location. Water will need to be piped to that location.

11. Is this strictly a price based bid, or is there a value/performance part of the bid? I can’t see that there is anything besides price, but wanted to make sure. Will there be a public opening and results?

Award will be made to the lowest priced responsible bidder whose bid conforms to the solicitation. The bid opening and bid results will be public.
