Description of Waste Water Operator Duties

Cheat-Potomac Ranger Station, Petersburg

Furnish all tools, labor, and equipment, and be a certified State of West Virginia operator for the appropriate plant class necessary to complete the follow work on the Cheat-Potomac Ranger District, Petersburg administrative site sewer system: The waste water system is a Class S.

- Physically visit the site twice a week when needed, otherwise once a week, to check the level in the tank to assure the system is functioning properly and report the operation at that time to the Forest Service official.

- Check the ultra-violet light to assure proper operation. Perform cleaning and maintenance on the light as necessary. Operator will change bulbs as needed and the Forest Service will provide the bulbs. Repairs will be brought to the attention of the Forest Service, and it will be the responsibility of the Forest Service to have the repairs done.

- Line item 2 - Operator will quarterly take a “grab” sample and deliver sample to be tested by a certified laboratory, meeting approval of the Forest Service, and complete the necessary report. This report will be given to the Forest Service official at the Cheat-Potomac Ranger District, Petersburg for reporting. The contractor is responsible for the cost of this testing, refer to line item 2 in the schedule of items. Quarterly, the contractor collects a water sample from the waste water treatment unit's outflow, immediately packs the sample on ice, and then sends the sample to the certified lab of their choice via a shipping company, courier, or delivers it themselves. The lab report must include the following information regarding the sample: Flow, Bod, Suspended Solids, Coliform, Ph.

- The operator will maintain communication as stated above with the district to keep them informed of the operation of the system.

Questions and Answers

1. We are actively collaborating with our partners to gather precise important information to meet the government’s requirements comprehensively. To ensure thorough and effective communication, Could you please provide additional details or guidance on the specific types of testing required.

This information will allow us to fulfill all requirements with accuracy and clarity. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in considering this request.

a. See the following information and the amended statement of work in reference to this question.

Our prior contractor used PACE Analytical Services in Beaver, WV and typically used a courier from the company. There are other lab companies which can be used, however, the contractor should check with us prior to selecting a lab. The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection maintains a list of approved lab companies and the company chosen must be on that list.

The lab will complete their testing of the sample and send a report of their findings to the contractor. The contractor must pay for the testing. The contractor must also provide a copy of the analysis to the Forest Service. This can also be arranged through the lab company—PACE sent the results form the previous contractor's samples direct to me. This report must be given to the Forest Service so we can file our quarterly report with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection to prove our waste water treatment unit is being properly maintained. This allows us to keep the permit for the operation of the waste water unit.
