About this file
This document includes a specification for Class II aggregate base and a solicitation for Caldor Suppression Repair and GAOA John Don't projects.
The specification provides requirements for Class II aggregate base to be used on the projects, including allowable materials, sieve sizes for aggregate grading, and minimum quality standards for resistance value, sand equivalent, and durability index.
The solicitation seeks a contractor to complete suppression repairs after the Caldor Fire and within the John Don't project area. Work will include restoring drainage functions, cleaning ditches and culverts, delivering aggregate and asphalt, and completing repairs such as a single course chip seal, fog seal, asphalt concrete overlay, and striping. Additional work on the John Don't project involves reconditioning the existing roadway. The location of work is provided, and contractors must furnish all labor, equipment, materials, and incidentals to complete the work by June 2023. This project is set aside 100% for small businesses. The estimated value is $45 million.

Aggregate Base
General
Aggregate for Class II must be clean and consist of any combination of the following:
1. Broken stone
2. Crushed gravel
3. Natural rough surface gravel
4. Sand
5. Processed reclaimed asphalt concrete, PCC, LCB, or CTB
Use ¾ inch aggregate grading. Do not change your selected aggregate grading without authorization.
If the aggregate grading testing results, sand equivalent test results, or both comply with contract compliance requirements but not operating range requirements, you may continue placing AB for the remainder of the work day. Do not place additional AB until you demonstrate to the Engineer the AB to be placed complies with the operating range requirements.
If the aggregate grading test results, sand equivalent test results, or both do not comply with contract compliance requirements, remove the AB or request a payment reduction. If you request is authorized, $2.00/cu yd is deducted. If AB is paid by weight, the Engineer coverts tons to cubic yards for the purpose of reducing payment for noncompliant AB left in place. An aggregate grading and a sand equivalent test represents up to (1) 500 cu yd or (2) 1 day’s production if less than 500 cu yd.
