The course serves medical and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and established investigators with a comprehensive curriculum covering organ anatomy and physiology, clinical diagnosis and treatment, molecular...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded the Regents of the University of Minnesota $309,761 on May 1, 2026, under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) to develop and deliver a hands-on training course in biomarker development and applications for cancer prevention research. The course combines virtual modules on chemical carcinogenesis fundamentals with five weeks of in-person laboratory training in state-of-the-art biomarker measurement techniques at the Masonic Cancer Center....
- The National Cancer Institute awarded the Beckman Research Institute of The City of Hope $280,931 on August 17, 2026, under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) to support investigator-initiated research on skeletal muscle health and impaired glucose tolerance in adolescent and young adult hematopoietic cell transplantation survivors. The award funds research examining how HCT-related exposures—including total body irradiation, corticosteroid exposure, graft-versus-host disease,...
- The National Cancer Institute of the Department of Health and Human Services awarded the Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope $733,864 on June 1, 2026, under the Cancer Biology Research program (CFDA 93.396) to identify and characterize stimulatory immune checkpoints regulating macrophage-mediated programmed cell removal in tumor immunosurveillance. The research uses high-throughput CRISPR-based screening to investigate how a novel stimulatory innate immune checkpoint interacts with...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory $199,573 on September 1, 2026, under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) to deliver an intensive sixteen-day laboratory and lecture course on metabolomics, held annually each summer from 2026 through 2030. The course combines theoretical instruction and hands-on training in cutting-edge metabolomics approaches to interrogate biochemical state. Metabolomics is a systems-biology technology that simultaneously...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $166,968 on August 15, 2026, under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) to develop single-molecule multi-omics sequencing methods for spatially resolved epigenetic profiling of extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) molecules and to investigate the relationship between ecDNA spatial organization, epigenetic landscape, and transcriptional regulation. The work addresses a technical gap in understanding ecDNA's...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded the University of Southern California $254,091 on September 1, 2026, under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) to support postdoctoral training in integrative cancer epidemiology. The award funds a joint training program administered by USC's Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and the University of Hawaii Cancer Center. The program trains postdoctoral fellows for independent careers in integrative cancer epidemiology research, emphasizing...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope $736,457 under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) on June 26, 2026, to develop small-molecule inhibitors targeting protein-protein interactions within the ERKS axis (comprising EphrinB, RGS3, KIF20A, and SEPT7) as a differentiation therapy for malignant brain tumors, particularly glioblastomas. The research employs a protein-protein interaction-based high-throughput screening assay to isolate...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded Yale University $130,490 on June 1, 2026, to support research on cellular and molecular mechanisms of early-onset colorectal cancer under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398). The award is a Project Grant with a period of performance through May 31, 2028, and work is performed in New Haven, Connecticut. The Cancer Research Manpower program provides biomedical training opportunities for individuals pursuing careers in basic, clinical, and...
The National Cancer Institute awarded the Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope $162,000 on August 11, 2026, under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) to develop and pilot a self-directed e-learning delivery model for clinical cancer genomics education. The recipient will convert selected core recorded didactic modules from its established Intensive Course in Clinical Cancer Genomics into a self-directed e-learning course bundle using theoretically grounded instructional design methods. The project will conduct a two-group pilot study to evaluate the effectiveness of the redesigned e-learning modules compared with the current didactic course modules covering the same content. Upon demonstrated success, the redesigned modules will be disseminated as a self-directed fundamentals course in genetic cancer risk assessment. This work addresses the shortage of healthcare providers with adequate knowledge and skills in genetic cancer risk assessment, which currently limits scalability of genomically-informed cancer risk management and treatment. Performance occurs at the Beckman Research Institute's facility in Irwindale, California. The period of performance runs from the award date through July 31, 2028. The Cancer Research Manpower program supports biomedical training opportunities for individuals pursuing careers in basic, clinical, and prevention research important to the National Cancer Program.
