Dr. Aubrey Armento will lead a clinical study examining female adolescents...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded the Regents of the University of Colorado, doing business as University of Colorado-Denver, $749,653 on June 25, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865). The award funds development and validation of screening and diagnostic criteria for pediatric sepsis tailored to emergency care settings. The project will develop suspected sepsis criteria to identify children at risk for...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded The Regents Of The University Of Colorado, doing business as University Of Colorado-Denver, $114,268 in project grant funding on August 25, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865). The award funds research investigating how placental proteins influence prematurity outcomes. The project tests the hypothesis that proteins secreted by the preterm placenta—with documented...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded The Regents of the University of Colorado, doing business as University of Colorado-Denver, $163,825 under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program on June 2, 2026, to develop and validate trajectory-based phenotypes of pediatric septic shock and test targeted treatment interventions. The recipient will use trajectory modeling to derive and validate trajectory-based phenotypes (TBPs) of pediatric...
- The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute awarded The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia $1,068,774 on August 11, 2026, under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837) to develop a cloud-based platform for measuring physical activity via wearable sensors and predicting clinical worsening in pediatric pulmonary hypertension. The project addresses a critical gap in pediatric pulmonary hypertension treatment: pediatric mortality remains near 30% over five years, yet only two...
- The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute awarded The Regents of the University of Colorado (University of Colorado-Denver) $168,691 on August 1, 2026, under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837) to refine, augment, and pilot test an affect-based physical activity promotion program for cancer survivors at elevated risk of cardiovascular disease. The award funds a K01 Career Development Award with a five-year period of performance through July 31, 2031. Work is...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded The Regents of the University of Colorado, doing business as University of Colorado-Denver, $669,594 on June 17, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research Projects program (CFDA 93.865) to investigate circulating extracellular vesicles as functional biomarkers of maternal mental and physical health in pregnancy and postpartum, with focus on women with high levels of adverse childhood experiences....
- The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute awarded The Regents of the University of Colorado, doing business as University of Colorado-Denver, $212,782 on September 9, 2025, under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837) to investigate developmental dysanapsis in lung development throughout the lifespan in experimental bronchopulmonary dysplasia. The research examines whether intra-amniotic endotoxin causes persistent dysanaptic growth of airways, distal parenchyma, and...
- Federal Grant Award Summary The University of Colorado received a $1.5M Project Grant award from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to conduct research on early-life mortality trends in the United States between 1990 and 2024. The project, initiated September 10, 2025, and concluding August 31, 2029, will deliver comprehensive epidemiological analysis...
- Federal Grant Award Summary The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) awarded the University of Colorado-Denver a $2.26 million Project Grant (CFDA 93.865: Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research) on September 15, 2025, for research investigating inflammatory signaling mechanisms across the maternal-fetal interface. The research addresses critical gaps in understanding how inflammatory signals transfer through the placenta during...
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded The Regents Of The University Of Colorado (doing business as University Of Colorado-Denver) $636,728 for a Project Grant in Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research (CFDA 93.865) effective August 4, 2026. The award funds a multicenter prospective study measuring physical activity recovery in children who survive acute respiratory disease requiring invasive mechanical ventilation in pediatric intensive care units. The research will prospectively enroll 260 previously ambulatory children ages 5 to 18 who were invasively ventilated for 48 hours or longer. Physical activity will be objectively measured using activity monitors at two time points: immediately after hospital discharge and three months post-discharge, with measurements taken over 14-day periods. The study will test whether patient clusters identified by physical activity amount and intensity correspond to meaningful patient-centered outcomes, specifically whether clusters with higher physical activity exhibit higher three-month health-related quality of life. In a subset of 50 patients, qualitative interviews will examine barriers and facilitators to physical activity after pediatric intensive care discharge. Place of performance is Aurora, Colorado. The period of performance extends from August 4, 2026 through July 31, 2031. The funding addresses physical health impairments that persist in critical illness survivors and restrict children's ability to play, attend school, and socialize, with consequences for social, cognitive, and emotional development.
