The National Science Foundation awarded a $310,000 Project Grant to Case Western Reserve University to acquire a matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MALDI-TOF MS) under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049). This specialized instrument will enable a wide range of innovative research activities across 8 departments, including analysis of fragile macromolecules, complex biomaterials, and synthetic polymers. The new equipment will strengthen CWRU's research infrastructure, improve recruitment and retention of top students and faculty, and broaden participation by enabling new projects for diverse students. This award supports transformative research that will lead to new knowledge and practical applications in areas such as optoelectronics, tissue engineering, nanomaterials, and cancer detection/treatment. Sub-awards are not planned under this grant, which has a project period from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2026.
