The U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) awarded a $545,144 Project Grant under the Food Safety Outreach Program (CFDA 10.328) to the University of Georgia Research Foundation (UGA Research Foundation) to develop a hybrid train-the-trainer curriculum for Cooperative Extension agents in home food preservation, retail food safety, and cottage/small food business. This collaborative education and training project aims to reach 300 Extension agents across multiple states in the Southern region and beyond. The project will fulfill gaps in FSMA-related food safety training and outreach for non-traditional food business clients, such as home-based producers, cottage food operators, and small retail businesses. UGA Research Foundation, as the prime awardee, will partner with North Carolina State University, Clemson University, and Fort Valley State University to develop and deliver the comprehensive curricula through this 3-year grant, which commenced on September 1, 2023.
