Viennale Internationales Filmfestival Wien

Viennale Internationales Filmfestival Wien, known as Viennale, is a non-profit organization that hosts Austria's leading international film festival annually in Vienna. The festival features screenings of American and international films, documentaries, and media across multiple venues in Vienna's historic center.

Over the past several years, Viennale has received significant project grant funding from the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs to support showcasing American films and content at the festival. These grants fall under the Public Diplomacy Programs (CFDA 19.040), aimed at informing foreign audiences about American culture and values to strengthen relationships. Recent awards provided over $3 million annually from 2020-2023 to specifically highlight and screen U.S. films, documentaries, and media programming during the 10-day festival held each October/November. Funding supports securing venues, organizing screenings, and facilitating cultural exchanges with American artists and content at the major international event. Viennale serves as the prime awardee and implementing partner, delivering the programming across Vienna's traditional festival cinemas and theaters in coordination with the grant's public diplomacy objectives.
