About this opportunity

The Town of Burlington, Massachusetts Department of Public Works is requesting sealed bids for town-wide tree services under Chapter 30B, with bids due August 28, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. (extended by two days per Addendum 1). This is a prevailing-wage public works contract subject to Massachusetts prevailing wage rates, with Tree Remover and Chain Saw Operator classifications specified at hourly rates ranging from $79.70 to $87.50 depending on effective date and union affiliation.

Bidders must submit hourly rate quotes covering an entire crew (typically 3–5 employees) and all equipment, with all costs including mobilization, travel, disposal, and dump fees incorporated into the rate. The scope includes town-wide tree trimming, cutting, removal, and disposal services, with an estimated quantity of 60 hours and a one-year contract term running September 14, 2026 through September 13, 2027. Emergency and storm-response services are included, with a 4-hour minimum call-out period, a 2-hour response time, and stand-by coverage built into the minimum. All crew members must be licensed to operate any equipment they use; arborist licensing is not mandated. All employees must complete a minimum 10-hour OSHA construction safety and health course. Contractors are responsible for scheduling and paying police details and traffic control when required.

Eligible bidders must demonstrate a minimum of five years' experience and provide references for five similar completed projects. All subcontractors must meet the same experience requirement. Bid security is required. Award will be made to the lowest responsible and responsive bidder. Bid documents are available at https://www.burlington.org/Bids.aspx, with inquiries directed to Patrick Duran at pduran@burlington.org or 781-238-5618. A five percent retainage applies to periodic payments, and the Town may terminate with 15 days' notice for unsatisfactory performance or funding unavailability.
