About this opportunity
The City of Aurora, Illinois is requesting bids on ice melt supplies for winter weather operations under IFB #26-055, with responses due July 29, 2026 at 12:00 a.m. A local business preference applies to vendors maintaining valid physical business addresses within Aurora's corporate boundaries for at least twelve months prior to bid opening.
Three product types are specified: standard Ice Melt, Green Earth Ice Melt (potassium acetate and sodium acetate blend for concrete surfaces), and SubZero Salt (calcium magnesium acetate blend with corrosion inhibitors). Bidders must provide pricing for seventeen line items across multiple packaging configurations, including 50-pound bags, palletized units, 500-pound bulk bags, and intermediate bulk containers ranging from 1,000 to 2,200 pounds. Deliveries will begin in Fall 2026 to five designated city locations and continue through the 2026-2027 winter season.
The contract carries a one-year initial term with two optional one-year renewal periods at the City's sole discretion. The City reserves the right to award multiple bidders and to increase or decrease quantities based on weather conditions and departmental requirements. Unit pricing must remain firm and fixed for the entire contract period, net of all discounts and excluding applicable taxes. The City is exempt from state and federal taxes under Illinois Revised Statutes.
Submission is electronic only via the OpenGov procurement portal; paper submissions will not be accepted. Bidders must provide product brochures, Safety Data Sheets, references from similar public or private agencies, and proof of capability to perform. Award will go to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, considering prior performance history, experience on similar projects, equipment adequacy, staffing, ability to meet delivery timeframes, and overall reliability. The successful bidder must execute a contract within five days of award notice and provide certificates of insurance for commercial general liability and workers' compensation. Minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, and disadvantaged business enterprises are encouraged to participate. Questions were due July 13, 2026.
