About this opportunity
The Department of the Army Medical Command is soliciting applications for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Program Idea Development Award to fund innovative, high-risk/high-reward research addressing pancreatic cancer outcomes, with a full application due date of October 7, 2026.
Applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, foreign and domestic organizations, and for-profit and nonprofit entities, with no career-level restrictions for single PI submissions. The program offers a Partnering PI Option pairing an experienced mentor (Initiating PI) with an Early-Career Investigator (Partnering PI) no more than eight years from first faculty appointment; for this option, only the Initiating PI submits a pre-application, but both PIs submit full applications. All associated applications for a research project may be withdrawn if the initiating or partnering application is rejected or administratively withdrawn.
The CDMRP expects to allot approximately $9.90 million to fund roughly 12 applications. Single PI submissions carry a total cost cap of $0.70 million; the Partnering PI Option carries a combined cap of $0.95 million. The maximum period of performance is three years. FY26 awards will be made no later than September 30, 2027, and funds expire for use on September 30, 2032.
All applications must address at least one of seven FY26 PCARP Focus Areas: early detection research, identification and characterization of risk, supportive care and survivorship research, metabolic disruptions, tumor development from precursors to metastasis, biomarkers to predict therapeutic response, and new therapeutic targets. Preliminary data relevant to the proposed project is required. Applications can support clinical research studies but do not allow clinical trials.
Pre-applications are due July 7, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time via eBRAP. Invitations to submit full applications are issued August 13, 2026. Peer review is scheduled for December 2026 and programmatic review for January 2027.
Funding falls under CFDA 12.420 (Military Medical Research and Development).
Synopsis
Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Pancreatic Cancer Research Program (PCARP) Idea Development Award supports the development of innovative, high-risk/high-reward research that could lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate progress in improving outcomes for individuals with pancreatic cancer. This award mechanism supports innovative ideas with the potential to yield impactful data and new avenues of investigation. All applications must address at least one of the FY26 PCARP Focus Areas.
Distinctive Features:
- This award mechanism requires preliminary data relevant to the proposed project. Applications can support clinical research studies; however, this mechanism does not allow clinical trials.
- Partnering Principal Investigator (PI) Option for Early-Career Investigator: This funding mechanism offers a higher level of funding for applications that propose to partner an experienced PI (i.e., Initiating PI, who will serve as the mentor) with an Early-Career Investigator (i.e., Partnering PI) wishing to pursue a career in pancreatic cancer research. For this option, only the Initiating PI will submit a pre-application, but both PIs will need to submit at the full application stage. The partnering PI's application is an abbreviated package specific to their distinct portion of the research project. Be advised, all associated applications for a research project may be withdrawn if the initiating or partnering application is rejected or administratively withdrawn.
