About this opportunity

The FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories (OSEL), is conducting market research to identify qualified sources for one portable hyperspectral camera with associated accessories, software, documentation, warranty, and technical support by August 7, 2026. This is a sources-sought notice preceding formal solicitation; no set-aside is anticipated.

The system must operate as a standalone unit with integrated display and user interface, requiring no external computer for normal operation. Minimum technical requirements include spectral wavelength range of 400 nm to 800 nm, 200 or more evenly distributed spectral bands, spectral bandwidth (FWHM) of 7 nm or less, image output of at least 512×512 pixels, minimum spectral resolution of 12 bits per pixel, and focus capability from approximately 15 centimeters to infinity. The camera must operate using internal rechargeable battery, support standard 120V, 60 Hz U.S. power charging, store collected data on portable media, and support data transfer to external computers.

The procurement supports FDA research activities for developing bench testing methods to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of digital pathology devices. Place of performance is FDA facilities. The requirement is classified under NAICS 333310 (Commercial and Service Industry Machinery Manufacturing) and PSC 6650 (Optical Instruments, Test Equipment, Components and Accessories). Vendors must submit responses in native Microsoft Excel format by the August 7 deadline. Small business respondents must address domestic manufacture, availability, country of origin, domestic content percentage, COTS status, production capacity, and supply chain constraints.
