About this opportunity
The National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, issued a Sources Sought notice on July 17 regarding availability and capability to provide a Visitech VT-iSIM Flat Top & Full Field upgrade to its super-resolution microscope, with responses due July 27 at 2:00 P.M. Eastern Time. This is a market-research notice, not a solicitation for proposals; no award will be made, and the Government assumes no cost responsibility for responses.
The requirement is a single upgrade to the existing VT-iSIM microscope system at the Confocal Imaging Facility of the NIA Intramural Research Program. The upgrade increases field of view at 100x objective by 2.7-fold and adds broadband, homogeneous illumination (Flatfield) capability. Technical specifications include field of view up to 13.3 × 13.3 mm with less than 6% corner-to-corner roll-off, approximately 100 nanometers lateral resolution and 280 nanometers axial resolution, 500 frames per second imaging capability, wavelength range of 400 to 750 nanometers, and laser coupling greater than 95% efficiency. Visitech International Ltd. is identified as the sole supplier and developer of the VT-iSIM system. The NAICS code is 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing; PSC is 6640, Laboratory Equipment and Supplies. Small businesses are encouraged to respond. Capability statements must be submitted electronically to John Johnson, Contract Specialist, at johnsonjr@mail.nih.gov and are limited to 20 pages excluding cover page, executive summary, and references. Responses must address company qualifications, total employee count, personnel professional qualifications, relevant government or GSA Schedule contracts, unique entity ID from SAM.gov, physical address, and points of contact.

It is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation or ultimately award a contract. Responses will not be considered as proposals or quotes. No award will be made as a result of this notice. The Government will NOT be responsible for any costs incurred by the respondents to this notice. This notice is strictly for research and information purposes only. Small businesses are encouraged to respond.
BACKGROUND:
The Confocal Imaging Facility (CIF) of the National Institute on Aging IRP has a VT-iSIM microscope with a relatively limited field of view (FOV). This upgrade will increase the FOV at 100x objective 2.7-fold, a significant improvement. This larger FOV will have a broadband and homogenous illumination (Flatfield).
These improvements will allow the CIF to maintain a state-of-the-art SIM superresolution system, so that NIA IRP core users will obtain the highest-quality SIM super-resolution images.
NIA investigators will be able to continue implementing a broad range of experimental projects essential to the core mission of the NIA. The Visitech VT-iSIM has unique properties not offered by any other vendor.
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
Visitech VT-iSIM Flat Top & Full Field upgrade to super-resolution microscope are essential for increasing camera FOV and adding capabilities to the VT-iSIM that will enhance the imaging and sensitivity of this system so it will remain in the forefront of imaging research at the CIF of the NIA IRP.
