Request for Information: Answers
1. Has a contractor performed similar work to this for the government in the past? If available, please provide the incumbent contract number. If you are unable to provide a contract number, is it safe to assume this is a new requirement for the government?
Answer: Yes, similar work was performed under W912PM-15-P-0061; however, this specific requirement is new
2. For ALL UG conduits showing copper and fiber to be pulled in the same conduit, our intention is to install / pull fiber rated inner duct and the copper cable in the conduit first, then pull the fiber in that inner duct. For intrinsic protection and to ensure that the fiber is not damaged, we never pull coper and fiber in the same raceways without some form of inner duct protection. Is this acceptable?
Answer: Yes.
3. Does USACE have the original design of Mays Chapel Rd? We would like to know if the material under the road near the Nature Center is fill dirt or solid rock. The road looks to be built up, but we are not sure.
Answer: No we do not. We assume it is fill dirt and not solid rocks.
4. What type of conduit material is to be used for the 10” conduit under Mays Chapel Rd at the Nature Center parking lot (steel, PVC)?
Answer: PVC.
5. Exactly where is the drop to be delivered in the vicinity of the Ranger Station? Is the drop to be delivered to the building in the middle of the road or the building closest to the pole #34?
Answer: Building closest to pole 34.
6. Can the drop to the sewage pump house (Pole 22) be underground instead of aerial? If not, can we set a pole adjacent to the pump house and a weather head going into the pump house?
Answer: Yes, it can be installed underground but in conduit.
7. What size junction boxes are required or desired?
Answer: The contractor shall propose the size of the junction box for the types of cable and hardware required in the box.
8. P.4 By “pole mounted type boxes” do they mean splice cases? If not, what is the intended “pole mounted type box”? Is there a spec / supplier that the USACOE prefers?
Answer: It must be in a junction box that is mounted on the pole. The contractor must choose the manufacturer for the junction box.
9. P. 4 “all work must be completed by 120 of the Notice to proceed” – the time interval is not specified. Is this business days?
Answer: Calendar days.
10. There will need to be a significant amount of utility locating where trenching, boring and digging is required, will the USACOE have the utility locating done or is that also part of our scope? Is there a Utility Locating service that the USACOE prefers / requires on this property?
Answer: This is the contractor’s responsibility for the location services.
11. Is firestop required on all interior wall penetrations where we will be entering a building / installing either conduit or cables? If so, what is the rating required?
Answer: No.
12. In the nature center, visitors center and maintenance facility, once we get the coper and fiber into the building, can we run the cables / secure them with straps or do we need to run ¾’ conduits to pull the coper and fiber in? Currently all cables installed in those buildings are just secured with straps / no conduits.
Answer: Must be installed in an appropriate sized conduit for the cables, according to the NEC. We are not sure that ¾” is appropriate for the sized cables involved.
