]PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL

Coordinate with the COR prior to fence installation. Install fence to the lines indicated. Adjust fence line around existing trees as directed by the COR. Space line post equidistant at intervals not exceeding 10 feet.

Terminal (corner) posts must be set at abrupt changes in vertical and horizontal alignment. Fabric must be continuous between terminal (corner) posts.

3.2 EXCAVATION

Clear post holes of loose material. Spread waste material where directed.

Eliminate ground surface irregularities along the fence line to maintain a two-inch clearance between the bottom of the fabric and finish grade.

3.3 POSTS

Set fence posts plumb and in alignment. Set terminal posts, corner posts, and gateposts in concrete to a minimum depth of 36 inches, except where solid rock is encountered. Where solid rock is covered with an overburden of soil or loose rock, terminal posts, corner posts, and gate posts must be set to a minimum depth of 36 inches unless a penetration of 18 inches in solid rock is achieved before reaching the 36-inch depth, in which case depth of penetration must terminate. Grout all portions of terminal posts, corner posts, and gate posts set in rock.

Portions of terminal posts, corner posts, and gate posts set in concrete must be set in concrete from the rock to ground level. Terminal posts, corner posts, and gate posts set in concrete must be set in holes not less than 1'-0" in diameter. Diameters of holes in solid rock must be at least one inch greater than the largest cross-section of the post. Thoroughly consolidate concrete and grout around posts to be free of voids. Allow to cure for 72 hours prior to attachment of any items to the posts. Maximum spacing of line posts to be 10'. Drive line posts to a depth of 36 inches, except where solid rock is encountered. Where rock prohibits driving of the line posts, ensure the line posts are sufficiently secure to hold the fabric in position.

3.4 BRACES AND TRUSS RODS

Provide braces and truss rods as required and in conformance with the standard practice for the fence. Provide horizontal (compression) braces and diagonal truss (tension) rods on the fence. Extend braces and truss rods from terminal posts to line posts. Diagonal braces must form an angle of approximately 40 to 50 degrees with the horizontal.

SECTION 01 56 26 Page 5

3.5 TOP RAILS

Support top rails at each post to form a continuous brace between terminal posts. Join sections of top rail using sleeves or couplings that will allow expansion or contraction of the rail.

3.6 CHAIN-LINK FABRIC

Install chain-link fabric on the side of the post indicated. Attach fabric to terminal posts with stretcher bars and tension bands. Space bands at approximately 15-inch intervals. Pull fabric taut to provide a smooth uniform appearance free from sag. Fasten fabric to line posts at approximately 15-inch intervals and fasten to tension wires at approximately 6-inch intervals. Cut fabric by untwisting and removing pickets. Splice by weaving a single picket into the ends of the rolls to be joined. The bottom of the installed fabric must be within 2 inches of the ground.

3.7 GATES

Provide gates as indicated. Mount hinged gates to swing in directions indicated. Provide latches, stops, and keepers as required. Attach padlocks to gates or gate posts with chains and hinge pins, and weld hardware or otherwise secured to prevent removal. Provide two (2) sets of keys for padlocks on gate shared with others.

3.8 HEAVY DUTY BREATHABLE MESH/WINDSCREEN

Install mesh/windscreen on the interior face of the chain link fence.

Maintain the mesh/windscreen for the duration of the contract. Maintenance includes, but not limited to, repairing damaged screens and posts.

3.9 GROUNDING

Ground fences at intervals not exceeding 500 feet and within 100 feet of gates in each section of the fence adjacent to the gate. Ground conductor must consist of No. 8 AWG solid copper wire. Grounding electrodes must be 19mm (3/4-inch) by 3.05m (10-foot) long copper-clad steel rod.
