SUMMARY OF CHANGES

3. Corrections to Amendment #0002:

a. Pre-Bid Meeting Notes, Paragraph 1 should have read as follows, in pertinent part:

“…A bid bond is required to be submitted along with the bidder’s bid and is required to be stated in the amount of 20% or $3 Million of its bid price. …”

b. Paragraph 5b should have read as follows, in pertinent part: Specification Section 01 33 00 “SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES” is changed by way of this Amendment. The Bidder shall remove and replace the Submittal Register (Pages 1-11) and replace with the revised Submittal Register (pages 1-10) attached hererto.

Question received on May 12, 2009:

Question #1: I am bidding the Cady Marsh Ditch Project in Griffith, Indiana. I need to know the manufacturer of the rubber check valves which are shown on the plans.

USACE RESPONSE TO QUESTION #1: The manufacturer of the rubber check valves which are shown on the plans is Red Valve Company/Tideflex Technologies, 600 North Bell Ave.

Bldg. 2, Carnegie, PA 15106

Question #2: Concerns over the current steel sheet piling specified for use in the above referenced project. The specification currently calls out a PZC14 section and therefore sole sources the sheet pile to one mill source.

Industry Name Thickness Section Modulus

1. SCZ21 .375” 19.85 in. 3/ft.

2. PZ22 .375” 18.10 in. 3/ft.

3. SKZ24 .375” 37.73 in. 3/ft.

The Industry has many choices of steel sheet pile sections that can satisfy the structural needs of this and many other projects. In meetings with the Corp of Engineers we suggested that instead of specifying a profile, or verbatim the exact properties of a sheet pile section, that the engineers state the needs of the job. This method will not compromise the integrity of your structures but will create a fair trade environment.

USACE RESPONSE TO QUESTION #2: The requirements for metal sheet piling are contained in Paragraph 2.1 METAL SHEET PILING of Specification Section 35 49 13.10 03 METAL SHEET PILING. Sub-paragraph 2.1.1 Alternative Steel Sheet Pile Sections provides requirements for substituting alternative steel sheet pile sections.

Questions received on May 11, 2009:

Question #3: Is the “I-WALL SSP CUTOFF SECTION” (Sheet S-06) for expansion and contraction joints or just expansion joints only? If it is intended to be for only expansion joints, we will need contraction joint detail.

USACE RESPONSE TO QUESTION #3: The I-WALL SSP CUTOFF SECTION shown on Sheet S-06 pertains to both expansion and contraction joints.

Question #4: It is our interpretation that the contraction joints are every 25 LF and the expansions every 75. Is that correct?

USACE RESPONSE TO QUESTION #4: 25 feet and 75 feet are the maximum distances allowed between contraction joints and expansion joints as called out on sheet S-01 note 2.

Lesser distances may be used.

Question #5: Need reinforcing detail at joints.

USACE RESPONSE TO QUESTION #5: See I-Wall Stem Joint Section on Sheet S-06.

Reinforcement is not shown in these sections, but intent is to stop reinforcement at all joints and provide min. cover at end of bars. No detail shall be provided.

Questions Received on May 8, 2009:

Question #6: Regarding I-Wall reinforcing steel; the plan sheets (see S-03, sheet 21) show horizontal reinforcing steel apparently going through the Steel Sheet Piling. Will the piling need to be cut or drilled to allow penetration of this bar or can this bar be relocated outside of the piling (on top or side)?

USACE RESPONSE TO QUESTION #6: The horizontal bar, shown in I-wall Reinforcing Detail on sheet S-03, passing through piles can be relocated above the piles. Piles shall not be cut or drilled to accommodate reinforcing steel.

Question #7: Are the sheet pile interlocks sealed?

USACE RESPONSE TO QUESTION #7: No, interlocks are not sealed. See Amendment 0002, the use of interlock sealant was deleted from the Solicitation (Specification Section 35 49 13.10 03)

Question #8: Referencing Drawings S-06, Section 3 (I-WALL SSP CUTOFF SECTION). Does this detail apply to both expansion and contraction joints?

USACE RESPONSE TO QUESTION #8: The I-WALL SSP CUTOFF SECTION shown on sheet S-06 pertains to both expansion and contraction joints.

Question #9: Do the horizontal reinforcing bars terminate on either side of or pass through the contraction joints?

USACE RESPONSE TO QUESTION #9: See I-Wall Stem Joint Section on Sheet S-06.

Reinforcement is not shown in these sections, but intent is to stop reinforcement at all joints and provide min. cover at end of bars. No detail shall be provided.

Question received on May 7, 2009:

Question #10: In regards to the jib crane: Is it possible to eliminate the jib extension as long as we are able to make the 23' or 24' distance with the main boom? Drawing S-08

USACE RESPONSE TO QUESTION #10: NO. The boom needs to be retractable in order to clear the existing electrical control panel boxes.
