Graham Burke Gear Box Clean and Repair Site Visit and Additional Q&A

Q: Do you really need spare core filters? They are designed to be cleaned and reused.

A: If the cores are intended to be cleaned and not replaced then I would only need at least 2 spares in case of failures.

Q: Graham Burke and Huxtable only have strainers on their oil systems which does not filter the oil.

A: Are you currently using particle filters? If you are do they need to be replaced as well?

Q: Can work be done off site?

A: Yes, the contractor may choose to clean, repair, or survey parts and equipment on-site or transport at contractor expense to an off-site repair facility. The contractor is responsible for Government owned equipment and parts via the Government Property clause, FAR 52.245-1 and adhering to performance schedule.

Q: Is the contractor responsible for supplying filters and brackets.

A: Yes.

Q: Have we done any oil analysis on #2?

A: No, this was considered unnecessary since the oil will be drained and replaced after cleaning and inspection.

Q: Is the drain back external or internal to gear box?

A: The drain back from the input shaft seal is external. It was found before to be plugged up at the internal location where the receiving fitting threads into the gearbox housing. I can get a photo next Tuesday while I am down there, it that is OK.

Q: Can the Government provide a picture below the input shaft?

A: We can get a photo next week if the previous answer does not suffice.

Q: Are the removal of inspection covers and upper housing necessary for both cleaning and survey of gear box #2?

A: It is required for all 3 units.

Q: What are the hours available for work at Graham Burke?

A: We anticipate pumping season will have started by the time contract performance at Graham Burke begins. The plant operates 24 hours a day seven days a week during pumping season and contractor personnel may work any time the plant is operational.

Q: Will the Government provide 55-gallon drums for

Q: Has the Government performed pressure washing of the gear boxes in-house?

A: No, the Government hasn’t previously performed this requirement.

Q: Do the gear boxes have an external thrust bearings like the gear boxes at the Huxtable Pump Station?

A: No, they do not.

Q: Will Government Graham Burke Personnel disconnect the motor from the gearboxes to allow cleaning?

A: Yes, the Government will disconnect motors in addition to removing any and all instrumentation to make lubrication lines/drain lines accessible as noted in the Performance Work Statement, Section 1.5.
