1.2 SUMMARY
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) 3-story office building, in Walla Walla, will undergo a complete heating and air conditioning (HVAC) system renovation. Additionally, the computer server room will be partitioned from the adjacent open office space and have modifications to the exisiting fire suppression system in that area. During construction, this will require periodic closure of one of the two exit stairs, obstruction of the normal egress path, and removal of the ceiling rendering the sprinkler system non-compliant with code.
1.3 EXITS
Two exits (and access routes) must be maintained open at all times while the building is occupied. If it is necessary to block an exit for construction activities, one exit is permitted under the following conditions:
a. the number of occupants on that floor shall be less than 100.
b. the travel distance to an exit enclosure for occupants on that floor shall be less than 100 feet.
c. not during Government's work schedule as specified in SECTION 01 14 00.10 28 PROJECT SITE RESTRICTIONS "Government's Work Schedule."
1.4 CEILING TILES
The removal of the suspended ceiling creates an impaired fire suppression system condition in that area.

Flanges shall conform to ASME B16.1, Class 125. Gaskets shall be nonasbestos compressed material in accordance with ASME B16.21, 1/16 inch thickness, full face or self-centering flat ring type. These gaskets shall contain aramid fibers bonded with styrene butadeine rubber (SBR) or nitrile butadeine rubber (NBR). Bolts, nuts, and bolt patterns shall conform to
ASME B16.1.
2.2.2.3 Welded Connections
Welded valves and pipe connections (both butt-welds and socket-welds types) shall conform to ASME B31.9. Butt-welded fittings shall conform to ASME B16.9. Socket-welded fittings shall conform to ASME B16.11. Welded fittings shall be identified with the appropriate grade and marking symbol.
2.2.2.4 Grooved Mechanical Connections For Steel
Rigid grooved mechanical connections may only be used in serviceable aboveground locations where the temperature of the circulating medium does not exceed 230 degrees F. Flexible grooved connections shall be used only as a flexible connector with grooved pipe system. Unless otherwise specified, grooved piping components shall meet the corresponding criteria specified for the similar welded, flanged, or threaded component specified herein.
Each grooved mechanical joint shall be a system, including coupling housing, gasket, fasteners, all furnished by the same manufacturer. Joint installation shall be in compliance with joint manufacturer's written instructions.
Use fitting and coupling houses of malleable iron conforming to ASTM A47/A47M, Grade 32510; ductile iron conforming to ASTM A536, Grade 65-45-12; or steel conforming ASTM A106/A106M, Grade B or ASTM A53/A53M.
Use gaskets of molded synthetic rubber with central cavity, pressure responsive configuration and conforming to ASTM D2000 Grade No.
