SUMMARY OF WORK
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS
1.1.1 Project Description
The intent of this project at Chief Joseph Powerhouse is to modernize existing high-pressure CO2 systems and design a new water mist fire protection system. The existing CO2 systems in the Oil Storage Room, Oil Purification Room, and Station Service Transformer Vault will be replaced with water mist to improve safety and reduce maintenance requirements due to CO2. The CO2 systems within the main units and station service units generator housings will remain in place, but will be modernized to bring these systems in conformance with current NFPA code requirements. See table below for a description of the CO2 panels and areas of coverage. The water mist system will comply with UL and FM and designed in accordance with NFPA 750 and these specifications. The following list of equipment and services to be provided is a general summary of the work and is not all-inclusive:
a. Provide the design for new water mist system.
b. Furnish and install new high pressure CO2 systems for generator units 1-27 and station service units as indicated on contract drawings.
c. Remove and dispose of existing generator unit high pressure CO2 equipment that will not be reused.
d. Furnish and install new water mist system for the oil storage room, oil purification room and station service transformer.
e. Remove and dispose of existing oil storage room, oil purification room and station service transformer high pressure CO2 equipment that will not be reused.
f. Furnish spare parts.
g. Provide training of Government employees.
h. Perform field tests, and prepare test procedures.
i. Comply with the site operations, environmental protection, and safety and health provisions.
j. Perform minor concrete and grout work for miscellaneous equipment mounting and anchoring.
k. Replace existing fire doors with new 90 minute fire shutter in Oil Storage and Oil purification rooms, electronic release.
l. Replace existing fire doors with new 3 hour fire shutter in Service Station Transformer Vault, electronic release.
SECTION 01 11 00 Page 2
m. Fireproof and seal all new and existing penetrations in the Oil Storage, Oil Purification and Service Station Transformer Vault, including new electronic fire damper controls.
n. Remove and dispose of the equipment from the decommissioned water purification room, this will be the location for the new water mist system equipment.
Each of the upgraded and new fire protection systems will be provided with a new combination fire alarm/detection and suppression control panel. Each of these control panels will annunciate activation or alarm to the existing annunciator panel located on the switchboards and in the plant control room. Fire Suppression Control Panel (FSCP) power sources will utilize dedicated 120 VAC power with battery backup to support 120 hours standby with 15 minutes of alarm.
The following is for information only: The Contractor should be aware that asbestos has been located in several of the original 1950's CY panels, If any ACM is identified during construction, stop work and notify the KContracting Officer.
The asbestos wiring, which will be abated by the operating project was located in the CY panels, these are CY panels CY1, CY2, CY3, CY4, CY0 & CYG0. The CY panels are in the control cable gallery on the 785' elevation for the main units. In the HVAC room on 785' elevation for CY0 for the oil rooms and transformer and in the 763' elevation station service penstock room for the station service units. The wiring goes from the panels through conduit and cable trays to their respective S-board.
Coordinate with the Operating project staff to ensure asbestos wiring is abated in these area prior to commencement of work.
