Page 4 of the SOW indicates “Type K” copper tube for heat mains. Industry standards and past projects with Ft.WW DPW are almost always “Type L” copper tube for heat piping. Will “Type L” be acceptable?

A) Type L copper tubing will be an acceptable alternative to type K.

‐ Is the Boiler Room to be considered a Hazardous Location where the ignition source (burner) needs to be 18” AFF? (15 IMC 304.3, 202 Hazardous Locations, 15 IFGC 303.2, 202 Hazardous Locations).

A) Yes, per IMC 304.3 a source of ignition such as a burner, ignitor or electrical switches must be elevated 18” above the concrete floor.

‐ Boiler lead time after submittal approval is in excess of 8 weeks. This will put the work having to be performed into the heating season and the building users most busy time. Will contractors be able to perform the work in a timely manner without disruption to the building user?

A) See amended SOW, the period of performance will be extended 330 days.

‐ The scope of work calls for the existing exhaust fan to be rotated to supply air into the boiler room.

That fan is currently installed on an interior wall that would now pull air from the shop space and into the boiler room. Would this cause any issues pulling air from the shop that may contain fuels or vapors from vehicles?

A) No, the existing fan elevation will preclude drawing in any heavier than air fuel vapors from the adjacent shop space.

‐ If the fan was relocated to the exterior wall would the owner want an insulated motor damper and or mixing box with filters?

A) The scope requires re‐installation of the existing fan in its current location with reversing the direction of airflow. Installation of the existing fan on an exterior wall is not desired.

‐ If the fan stays on the interior wall is a fire damper needed?

A) No

‐ Presently the period of performance is identified as 120 days after receiving award. Is it the government’s intention to award this project for completion this fall? The customer mentioned the end of October through the winter months was a very busy season for them. Completing this project during the customer’s busy season might limit the contractor’s access.)

A) See amended SOW, the period of performance will be extended 330 days.

‐ Day/Hours the building will be available to the contractor? The onsite customer mentioned that access to the building will be limited to Monday through Thursday for 10 hours a day. Can access to the building be made available outside of these hours, possibly including weekends?

A) Yes, arrangements will be for access during normal business. Additional hours can be discussed at the precon.

‐ If this project is scheduled for completion this fall, will the contractor be require to provide temporary heat to the building, as the old system is removed and the new system installed?

‐ Was the intent for the copper lines to be Type L? This is usually standard at these pressures.

A) Type l copper will be an acceptable alternative to Type K.

‐ Can we use Press style fittings?

A) No, joints shall be soldered, brazed or threaded.

‐ Specs state that copper type K tubing is required. Please verify that this is correct. Use of type K copper in heating systems is rare. All copper would have to be special order because the local supply houses do not stock type K copper.

A) Type l copper will be an acceptable alternative to Type K.

‐ Will this be an occupied building?

A) Yes, however the user will do whatever is necessary do facilitate the work effort.

‐Temporary heat is not called out in the scope. Will owner furnish temporary heat? Will contractor be responsible for temporary heat?

A) See amended SOW, the period of performance will be extended 330 days.
