Subject: Replace Generators Building 501
STATEMENT OF WORK
1. General: Existing generators in the basement of Bldg. 501 have mechanical issues and need to be replaced. These generators shall be replaced with one generator in a self-contained artic enclosure. The new generator shall also be connected to Bldg. 506 and Bldg. 507.
1.1. See attached Model Drawings L-1, E-1, F-1, and F-2 which detail general requirements for the work and specifications for equipment referenced here.
1.2. Conduct a pre-construction meeting with the tenant and DPW to arrange access and to ensure that tenant’s requirements are understood.
1.3. The access hatch can only be open between 7AM – 3:30PM and must be coordinated with David Meinhold (907-873-7352) or equivalent personnel. If hatch must be opened earlier or left open later, approved guards would have to be provided to monitor hatch until hatch is closed. Hatch will take a large crane to open. The actual weight of the hatch lid is unknown, but has previously been lifted with a 20 ton crane.
1.4. The equipment powered from ‘Panel F’ in the basement of Building 501 cannot be powered down. The work sequence shall be designed with input from the tenant (Joe Labaska, 907-873-3216) to ensure that no equipment is de-powered. Any work which may affect the power supply to Bldg. 501 must be coordinated with Joe Labaska at least 30 days in advance.
1.4.1. If using the NEC generator to supply power to panel F, work must be completed within 6 hours during the duty day. If the NEC generator fails during the building power outage the contractor shall have a back-up method to restore power to the 59th facilities within 30 minutes.
1.5. Any power outages for the Bldg. 501 must be coordinated with Sonny Zarecki (907-873- 7326) and shall be scheduled a minimum of 7 days in advance. To schedule power outages for Bldg. 506, coordinate with Pat McGraw (907-459-5460) a minimum of 48 hours in advance, with 72 hours of notice preferred. To schedule power outages for Bldg. 507, coordinate with Rob Thurston (907-687-1774), a minimum of 48 hours in advance.
1.6. This project will require ‘Hot Work.’ As such, a hot work permit will be required. Only qualified personnel shall participate in any hot work.

2.5. Electrical details for installing the new generator:
2.5.1. All electrical conductors shall be replaced and reconnected as specified in electrical drawing E-1. All misc. hardware, labor, etc., for these connections shall be considered and included. All electrical connections must have flexible sections where they connect to the unit to isolate vibration unless otherwise noted in the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
2.5.2. All conductors shall be 75℃ or 90℃ rated copper wire suitable for arctic, dry and wet locations.
2.5.3. Power output, control function, annunciation and accessory circuits all require stranded flexible leads and flexible metallic conduit suitable for wet environments where attaching to the generator to prevent breaks from vibrations. Also keep in mind that cables or conduits are not compressible along their length so flexibility in that dimension must be accommodated with sufficient length, offsets or bends. Conduits shall be provided with expansion fittings where necessary to compensate for thermal expansion and contraction per industry standards for this location.

2.5.4. AC & DC control wiring and communication cables must be run in conduit separate from the power cables to minimize power circuit interference in the control/comm circuits.
2.5.5. All conduit installed underground must be galvanized rigid steel conduit. All conduit installed outside must be suitable for wet environments. All conduit must be metallic.
Underground conduit must be a minimum of 18” below grade.
2.5.5.1. Any new conduit installed underground as part of this project shall have the location identified by 3” warning ribbon that is placed in the trench a minimum of 12” above the underground installation and a minimum of 6” below grade.
2.5.5.2. Reasonable effort shall be made to prevent water from entering the conduit when installed in wet environments.
2.5.6. All conduits modified as part of this project must be filled with a code compliant material if passing from the exterior to the interior of a heated structure. This prevents the circulation of warm air to the colder sections, which causes condensation. Any holes cut in the basement wall must be sealed to prevent moisture, soil and fire transfer.
2.5.7. New 12V batteries for the new generator (the DQDAA uses (2) 12V 4D batteries) shall be included in replacement. Batteries shall be connected to new generator per installation instructions.
2.5.8. The generator shall be tied in to existing EPO system. If access to room 115 is needed to complete this requirement, coordinate with Joe Labaska (907-873-3216) to arrange for an escort.
2.5.9. The existing power lines to bldgs. 501, 506 and 507 shall be located, cut and spliced to be routed through their respective transfer switches. These splices shall be in accessible, in-ground, heavy duty, concrete pull boxes outside of the arctic enclosure.
These boxes need to be suitable for cold, wet environments. Reasonable efforts shall be made to prevent water from entering any in-ground pull boxes including use of water-resistant gaskets or seals. Placement of these boxes shall not interfere with accessing the generator. These boxes shall have features to prevent unauthorized personnel from accessing the interior of the boxes.
2.5.10. Buried electrical line locations shall be mapped and included in submittals. Full one-line drawings shall be made of electrical connections including transfer switches, distribution panels, etc.
2.6. The Contractor shall EFI&T a new automatic transfer switch (ATS), similar to the Cummins BTPC isolation transfer switch, which meets or exceeds the following requirements to replace the existing transfer switches in Bldg. 501. This ATS shall provide stand-by power for Bldg. 501. The ATS shall be able to quickly transfer power and have a microprocessor control unit. It shall transfer power between the utility power and the generator power. It shall be rated for a minimum of 400A on 120/208V service and shall be
